Hello! Just got back from my visa run trip... unfortunately didn't get to see any answers in time before I left! I went all by myself and it was a bit of a mission cos I didn't even know how to get to Hatta haha... but anyway, made it there in the end. I was 11 days late, was also told about a 10 days grace period but unfortunately had to pay the fine. Had to go on to Oman as well, pay the 200dhs visa fee etc. Didn't get Oman insurance and didn't have to show the documents.

I always go to renew before the 30 days expire as wouldn't want to trust the 10 day 'grace period'. As you say, they can make it up as they go along. No sure what type of visa you have but I was explaining what happens when you have a 'visit visa'. There is also a 'tourist visa' and maybe it is a different procedure.

Should also have said that it is advisable to take insurance documents, driving licence, etc. with you just in case you are asked for them.
I really don't know either ?? We went armed with lots of cash as we were technically 1 day late as well - 30 days from 4th December is 3rd Jan ( I think ) but the ladies in Dubai DNRD told me we had until 8th or 9th jan ie 10 days grace period but I didn't want to wait any longer as the lady said it was a 50dhs fine for each day of an overstay.
Am beginning to think they make it up as they go along....
Really don't know how you managed to do what you did. Please tell us and it will save a lot of people driving on to the Oman border and paying 200 dhs. unnecessarily.
The first time we ever did a visa run before we got our residency, we drove to Hatta, got passports stamped, crossed the road, but were told to drive on to Oman. Our residency expired recently and my DH's new residency visa is in progress. Until his is finalised, I cannot get mine, so I have had to do visa runs again and have always driven on to Oman border.
If you look again at the original thread, Advice Seeker agrees with what I said. Hopefully some other EW will let us know what they have done recently so that the position regarding renewal can be clarified.

Must have changed since I did this on 4th Jan??
No charges or no need to drive to Oman if you just need an exit stamp & a new entry stamp for 30 days. Why do you have to drive into Oman??
