Hi Everyone,

I stumbled across this site today so apologies, i'm sure there have been 1000's of similar posts to this. I apologise in advance that this post is quite vague.

My fiancé currently works for a company in based in London but his area is the middle east. This means that he is forever back and forth, sometimes only for days, but sometimes weeks at a time. His company has recently purchased office space in Dubai. My fiance is pretty sure that if he told them he was willing to relocate, then they would jump at the chance, seeing as his expenses every month for flights/hotels/subsistence/phone bills is astronomical.

We have a 5 year old daughter who has just started school here in Bournemouth, Dorset, UK.

I have never travelled apart from the odd summer holiday. I would love the opportunity to live in another country and experience something different. I am also keen for my daughter to experience a different life for a while, a more multi cultural education and experiences and opportunities in Dubai are endless.

Can anyone tell me what it was like for them, moving to Dubai, specifically, taking a child out of school and the process of getting them started in a new school. Did they settle well, did YOU settle well?

Was it easy to make friends etc? is there alot for children to do there?

What do you think of dubai, which areas would you recommend to live in? My fiance lived in Dubai for a short while so knows the most popular areas but would appreciate a true expat review.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply :)

Steph

Welcome Steph, Yes you are right there are hundreds of relocating threads, London is right you must get married before you shall think of moving here so however that takes then getting all your legal documents together to present for resident visas here in Dubai, UAE. Schools are plenty but at age 5 I have heard for some unknown reason the classes are full in many top schools. Keep in mind School fees AED 40,000- 66,000 are the yearly fees roughly. Rent, Car rental or purchase, furniture, medical insurance, spending money, etc. are all things to add up and see what the sum would be. There is so many classes, sports, fun things to do here that she could be busy every day after school if you wanted her to be. Swimming, Dance, languages, music, fun, cooking classes, walks on the beach, horse riding so much to offer. Multi Cultural experience is remarkable, some like it some do Not. What fits for you will not fit the next. do some searching and have a open mind and before you start I would see of the company would move you with decent budgets in every avenue. happy days.
