I also had friends who moved back, husband was a UK national, wife Indian - he didn't have to go first, but did because they took so long with her spouse visa. They had to jump through so many hoops, to the point that I had to send them pics of them together, to prove it was a legitimate marriage.
All worked out in the end, but was a long and painful process.
Hi Ladies,
My husband and I are considering returning to the UK in the near future and I had some queries with regards to applying for a visa/residency. My husband is British so he obviously does not need a visa. As I am South African so I do.
I lived in the UK before, just after I finished school, for two years. I met my husband there and we came over to Dubai together 13 years ago and have lived here since.
As we got married here and have lived here for such a long time I don't have a UK passport or residence visa for the UK. I have been looking on the UK visa website for information but the information is not exactly clear which visa to apply for in our circumstance. The only way it seems is to apply to join a person already living in the UK. However, we both live here and would like to go over together. Has anyone been through this process and could talk me through it? Or if anyone knew of an agent that could help.
I will keep researching online and see if VFS Global can provide some assistance but would be great to get advice from anyone who has been through it.
Thank you :)
Go onto the website Expat forum. There is a British forum on there and so much information about visas and living in the UK
I believe one of the posters knows a huge amount about the immigration and visa law
Last year a friend who is a UK national moved from the UAE to the UK. His Wife is Indian however he had to move back first then apply for her to come later. Gov.co.uk may have a phone number to call, they are usually very helpful
