There's a nice LeftBank bar too on a hill underneath the Mumtaz indian restaurant. The Chedi is nice for a posh meal and Al Bustan Palace is pretty spectacular for high tea. We drove out into the mountains towards Nisra for an afternoon which was very scenic.

I'd second a trip to the Mutrah Souq - found some really nice jewellry for a friend in one of the stalls. After that we hired a taxi and he took us to the main sites - Sultan's Palace, Omani-French Museum, Al Bustan Palace (amazing chandeliers!) in an afternoon. Can recommend the cocktails in the Trader Vics @ Intercon too!

It may seem like a strange thing to post but it may be worth asking for room 341..!! Its got a huge balcony with sunloungers etc and a stunning view of both the mountains and the sea.... Sure we didn't pay extra for it, so it may be worth checking if its available....

The main souq is along the Cornische in Muttrah and well worth a visit, as is that whole area, although it is hard to buy authentic Omani silver these days! :( Perhaps take a dhow trip as the coastline is lovely....!

We stayed at The Crowne Plaza and to be honest enjoyed sitting round the pool (Mind you, Vikram who was in Corrie was there so that was an added bonus!). But we also went on a half day fishing trip organized through the hotel which gave us an opportunity to see the stunning coastline. We also popped over to The Chedi, but much preferred Crown Plaza...
