Falcon city is off the emirates road just passed global village....No pools there though. The villa behind falcon city have smaller houses called the mazaya s with there own pools...but no public transport yet. .You also have alma in AR has a nice pool its a newer development and 5 min walk to bus stop n shops.

Thanks so much for the replies. Like an eejit I forgot to say 'not in Mirdif' in my OP, sorry. DH doesn't fancy it, I don't know the area well at all so have no feelings either way. I'm worried that smaller compounds (like those I've seen in Mirdif) don't bother chilling their pools. I've nothing to base that on, I just suspect it may be quite common. I just phoned a lot of agents re villas in Palmera in AR, lots of ads up but not many actually still available. I've been told this is the most convenient bit of AR, any thoughts on this? I don't have a car and would like to be within walking distance of a grocery store - or cycling distance. Off to search out Falcon City as I don't know where it is!

Just found out yesterday we have to move out of our apartment in a week and we are considering moving to a villa. The only place I can think of that meets our requirements is the Ranches but I wonder if there are other areas I should consider? Our requirments: - half an hour or less drive to airport - temperature controlled swimming pool (this must be reliable as DH spends most of the weekend at the pool in summer!) - buses or close to metro - not Springs or that end of Dubai - 2 bedrooms, max 120k rent Please give me some ideas, we need to find something asap! Thanks. you might find a Villa that suits in Mirdif best bet for a pool i reckon. I just rented one of the Ghoroob A type building 2 beds....its Big! i got it for 56525Dhs per year 4 cheques...its 5 mins from the mall (walking), 1 undercover car space (although there is plenty outside for the second car) BUT there is no pool, however you could joind Fitness First in Uptown Mirdif with a chilled/heated pool (depending on time of the year) and you will still be quids in under your 120K a year budget. there is sporadic plane noise, notably those russian smoking Antonovs but its not bad (compared to my previous villa under flight path and Warqaa flat). Airport 10 to 15mins and feeder bus to metro nearby. 3 beds are 79K i understand, but go like hotcakes.....i think the next phase is due to be released in Feb... good luck...i moved just over a week ago, its a nightmare! edited by Blueskies on 24/01/2011

Doh! I'd forgotten about Mirdiff, it ticks all your boxes, I would think! I was going to say I wish I lived there because of MCC, but I would spend all my time and our money there and our bank balance would go negative..

I'm sure you'd find something in Mirdif to suit you. Only 10/15 minutes from the airport, easy access to E311 and other major routes, regular bus service and only 5 minutes from Rashidya Metro station. Also have Mirdif City Centre which is just fab!

Mirdif sounds like your best bet. Rents are cheaper there too

Would Falcon City be any good to you? I was going to suggest The Villa, but I think the villas are too big for what you want.
