Like many here I have invested in a property as yet unbuilt and supposed to be finished in 2008! The developers keep threatening to build but nada. I've listened to Dubai Eye property program and the lawyer who is often on ,Ludmilla, is charging 5000 AED for a consultation!

cheers

Hi girls, You really have to stay abreast of all the new laws that change in the United Arab Emirates (Including property laws). Because here more than elsewhere we like the laws to be respected. When possible, the best solution is to opt for information directly provided by a qualified lawyer. For example if you want to know all the latest laws around your property, family or professional life you can contact Mr. Alsaadi, (https://www.alsaadiadvocates.com/) he will be of great use to you. Here is my opinion, with that I remain serene. Take care of yourself. Viki.

I would definitely vouch for Khairallah legal (www.khairallahlegal.com)because I had the best experience hiring a lawyer from them when I bought a new property in Dubai. The lawyer was well aware of all the laws and regulations in UAE and he easily assisted me in this. Thanks to my lawyer.

First stop would be RERA to see at what stage they have the development registered at! If they've got it as on-hold or cancelled then it's worth pressing forward with something. But bear in mind that many of these developers don't actually have any money anymore, so fighting to get anything back will be a waste of time. Be prepared to just have to walk away. A friend of mine had some luck with a Sudanese lawyer who is well known in the local Dubai courts. He managed to get her some money back for an apartment she bought in a building which never even broke ground. I will try to get his information and post here. As another poster mentioned sadly sometimes it takes a local lawyer or an arabic speaking lawyer whose only experience is in Shari'a who is well known to get any movement. I hate hearing these stories and want to say how sorry I am OP that you are going through this. It is robbery and totally unacceptable! Can you imagine what would be done to these developers in the States or the UK! Good luck to you and I will post ASAP with lawyer info.

I went to see Irina O'Sullivan at Ahmed Ibrahim Advocates & Legal Consultants. They are a local UAE law firm licensed to represent their clients in courts and have many cases related to property disputes. She reviewed all our documents and gave good suggestions on what to do next. They were good value for money compared to other law firms we went to. Her e-mail is [email protected]. Hope it helps.

Found it - Claire McCarthy at James Berry. As I said, it was a while ago, so you might need to check she's still there.

I found a recommendation for one on here and I think her name was Claire. If I remember rightly, she charged 1,600dhs for an hour's consultation but this was a while ago so it might have changed. Let me look through my emails and see if I can find the one she sent me.

I went to see her about a delayed property and I think the Dhs5000 is worth spending as she looked at the contract very carefully and told us what our chances were of any compensation (not much)! I think she was honest with me and wasn"t pushy to take any more money. But if you do decide to go ahead after the initial meeting it is very expensive!
