Hi everyone - we'd love to hear your thoughts on the newly named Barsha Heights?

Perhaps they should've tarted it up before renaming it. With that I don't mean the endless filthy cards that are constantly distributed and littered around. It's a depressing looking area with no trees and greenery. From what I heard it's full of bachelor's shared accommodation and not a family friendly area. 2 of my single friends live there but are moving soon. Their buildings are poorly maintained yet the prices are similar to the Greens which is very well maintained. The lack of pavements and massage cards drive me up the wall.

Tecom was a good name, it was setting it apart and everyone knew what you were talking about. Al Barsha heights is just confusing and Al Barsha is getting too big and spread out as an area. I can't see a name change will change the property prices or that it would become more upmarket, it still is and look exactly the same.

After discussing with other people, we came to a consensus on the following points: 1. What's with the "heights" in Barsha Heights? Just seems so random and unoriginal. 2. In the list of places that should be renamed, was TECOM really at the top? I mean how about "The Villa" which is the most indistinct and confusing community name in Dubai. 3. Leave well enough alone. TECOM was just fine.

I work in TECOM and now that the area has changed name we will need to reprint all our Company stationary...... an expense we hadn't expected. Not sure what is behind the name change but lets hope there will be more investment so the landscaping can be finished rather than just patches of sand everywhere and unfinished pavements. It is about time all the massage cards left on car doors disappeared too! Lets hope it is a new beginning and the area improves. Here, here - this area was developed in a very ad hoc way in the boom times; such as shame - some buildings are very good other just look awful. With its quite good location ( some building have good sea views) it is high time there was landscaping and greenery and not just desert everywhere.

I can imagine all the estate agents will be rubbing their grubby little paws together.

My husband and I arrive in July and have been looking at numerous areas to set up base, one of which was TECOM. We started to settle on the idea of Downtown or Business Bay as that is where his office is, but TECOM certainly looks like a good option due to price, location and amenities on offer. Any recommendations on towers?
