Thinking about it having some laid but wanted to know:

Does the colour fade?
Does it get really hot to walk on in the summer?
Can it be laid over interlocking pavers or should it be laid on sand?
Any tips/hints for maintenance?

Have heard of Clearview that lay it but any other recommendations? Want to get a few quotes.
Thanks :)

go with green people. It's safe and it's so good. We have had ours installed 2.5 years ago and it doesn't fate, doesn't get to hot even in july and it's very easy to clean. It makes a huge difference on your garden and saves us loads of water and fertilizer and grass headaches.

Mine is from Dragonmart. For about 23 sq meters I paid 2000 AED - they did not offer home delivery. But in the same time we had a team to organize our garden so they made a deal with Dragomart and brought the grass. It's enough good quality and the colour is really nice. To spread it they had to prepare the surface - time consuming process but noe it looks and works really ok. There is a big choice of colour, softeness, thickness etc. Our was priced in the middle, the most expensive was 180 AED per sq meter.

We got ours from Al Mostafawi - it's right next to Karama metro station. We went for the cheap option as we were just putting kids toys on top of it. Prices vary hugely dependent on quality. The more 'grass like' stuff at Dragonmart was 50dhs+ a sq m but it looks considerably better than the cheap stuff.

Hi Quizzme Where's Mostafawi? I googled it but it came up with chains of stores it owns? Sounds like the place to go.

Last time I checked Dragonmart they had 3 types and prices, starting at 50 aed per sq meter ( although also got same price per sq ft in same shop so unsure). In the end and since we are renting we went to Mostafawi and got their cheapest option at 20 aed per sq ft (they have 2 more options with thicker grass) and they came to install it for free (laid over bricks). Very happy with it and it's guaranteed x

Thanks for the info on pricing. I'll try and mesaure up the area where I'd like to put it. I wonder if it could be laid on top of the existing grass? Thanks too for the tip about Dragonmart - I might buy a cheap bit for the part that's shaded.

We have artificial grass around our pool area and it looks lovely. We went for the 'cheaper' option and bought it from Dragon-mart, then my husband laid (with special glue to fix, available from ACE) it on top of the concrete. It's been down over a year now and still looks new, it does get hot in the summer but like a previous poster said - so does everything. We wash it down with the hose once a month and that seems to be enough. It may not last as long as the other, more expensive companies - time will tell, but we reckon it will out last our time in this villa....

We had artificial grass laid in our garden by Green People about 2 yrs ago. The area used to be paved so they took up the paving, drilled holes in the concrete base for drainage and then laid the 'grass' on top on the drilled concrete. It's worked absolutely fine ever since. Yes, it does get hot in summer, but then so does paving - use flip flops or sandals or whatever. It just gets hosed down occasionally to get rid of the dust/sand. Other than that we have a pool with a heater and chiller. We have nothing green/live in our garden - just canopies, paving, artificial grass, a crushed stone surround with large rocks and pots of various sizes. DEWA bills ex housing fees range from 1500dhs in the summer to 700dhs in the winter. Two of us only living in a 3 bed Saheel villa with no maid.

hi, usually depending on the size of your garden it will range from 19 dhs - 30 dhs per sq ft. a friend of mine used to work for green people. It seems expensive but in the long run it will save you alot. the grass that is in the shade it will never grow and once its dead thats it! green people have quality and it lasts for years depending on how well you take care of it. it could last up to 10 years

Our dewa bills are very high so I was thinking of getting aftificial grass. Also we have another bit of grass that's always shaded and it's not doing very well. I've no idea what area I'm talking about but I'd really like to have an idea of how much it would cost for the grass from greenpeople. I guess I could call them for a quotation but don't want to get them out if it's going to be horrendously expensive. Can anyone provide even a rough guide to prices please? Thanks.

Thank you for your replies. The area we are thinking of putting the grass is not huge, but it links two paved areas so we thought the artifical grass might be the way to go so the kids could still ride their bikes on it, no watering needed etc. Does anyone know whether I can be laid over paving?

We have artificial grass and it's ok, but ours does get radioactively hot in summer = can't walk on it other than early mornings or after sundown. You can clean it either with water (if you have the woven backed stuff) or by sweeping with a hard broom, and the colour of ours hasn't faded. Sweeping it is a bit of a tedious job though! Our garden isn't huge, and to be honest if I were doing it again I wouldn't get plastic grass, other than maybe a smallish area. I would either have proper grass or try to design something with stones / gravel / paving and lots of pots and planting borders.

hi, yes you can wash it as there are holes in the backing of the artificial grass. It will NOT go mouldy as it is a NON Latex backing it is a double woven urethan backing. thats the grass from green people which i highly reccomend. other companies use the cheap stuff which is made in china and it is a latex backing which will Go moudly after a while and it is much cheaper. cheap isnt always good!!! if you want it to last then i suggest green people.

Can I please hi-jack this thread with another question ? How do you clean the artificial grass? I mean if you get heaps of sand blown all over it, does it work it's way through to the bottom and can you water it to rinse it? DH is convinced it would go all mouldy and nasty, but I thought it's so popular, this can't be the case??????

hi, i would reccomend green people over clear view grass and green people there grass is quality and is not from china its from the USA. it doesnt fade they give you a 5 yrs warranty. in the long run you will be saving alot more money as oppose to real grass and on water bills. do you know how big your garden is?

Haven't tried it personally myself, but my neighbors got it done from Greenpeople. I called them as well to find out an estimate for my lawn and the price they quoted however was really expensive decided to stick with traditional grass.
