Snowflower and the secret fan by Lisa See. An amazing book based on a little girl growing up in a small chinese village with all the trials and tribulations that come with being born a girl in the 1830's. Foot binding, arranged marriage's, friendships and a secret writing code that only women learn and read ( the author based the book around this factual writing code that she came across as a journalist).
