if they were going to let the maid eat from the adult's buffet, they would need to charge her the adults price. Or all the ladies would be coming in pretending to be maids. :D I agree, which I think would probably encourage people to have their helpers eat at home first so they can focus on their job for the evening. :) Imagine the maids and nannies fighting with little Johnny over the last mini cheeseburger! Mayhem!

I think the part that was rubbing the OP (and others) the wrong way is that they are offering the CHILDREN'S buffet to the maid, even though the maid is an ADULT. It does seem a bit demeaning: just take the food on the side with the children, you aren't welcome at the adult's buffet. It would probably seem more correct to have a smaller buffet selection near the children's buffet area so that the maids/nannies can do their job and eat something other than nuggets, burgers and fries. Or would it be asking to much to have the helper just eat at home beforehand, since she is technically "at work" so should be attending to the children not stuffing her face. I guess there are two (or more) ways to look at it.

As a nanny I would expect to be able to eat even if I am on duty at a function. Yes I know a maid is treated differently when it comes to things like this but even if you are working it's nice that you can also have a bit of fun while in charge and eat. We are all entitled to lunch/snack breaks - or do maids not fit into that category??! I have even indulged in a few drinks *gasp* courtesy of my employers! Guess it's whatever works for you and yours - personally I would leave the kids and maid at home and have a great time without them!!! ;)

I am not going to comment on the advert but I would like to say that I took my maid to a buffet at Atlantis and paid full price for her to eat and drink (soft drinks). She went up to the buffet once and all she ate was fruit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I kept telling her to go up and eat some seafood or something, but she just wasn't interested. It was such a waste of money....:\:

Yes at least they get an offer to have a buffet for 100 Dhs, sounds fair enough. I have witnessed quite a few local families at buffets that let their maids dig in to the same food as they do, which of course is very nice. Last time I went to IKEA I saw an European lady dining in the restaurant with her two children. She took an empty plate for the maid and she and the children gave a little bit each from their meals to the maid’s plate. That really looked like feeding the dog. I mean how much is a meal at IKEA?

seriously, kids buffet... Yeah, kids buffet. They're maids! If I was a hostess or otherwise working at an event, would you expect me to plop down beside you and dig in? No. If you are working, as a maid or otherwise, it is more appropriate to not eat or eat with the kids.

How many times have we seen maids hanging aroung restaurants looking after the kids whilst the parents and kids eat and they get nothing? I remember some posters awhile ago stating that a lot of maids feel embarrassed eating in public, with the family etc. I think this is a fair compromise at a nominal charge, you get your helper in to do their job and they have the opportunity to eat if they wish to do so. Or why not give your helper the day off and look after your little ones yourselves?

I don't see what the problem is. If you must take your maid with you, then you should at least pay something for her. Why should she be free? She is there to work and I assume you would actually allow her to eat, so therefore something should be charged. Me either. I think its a good thing. I wouldn't bring my maid if I had to pay full cost for her (like at the xmas buffets) but I wouldn't want her not to eat.

The usual is that if you bring the maid you pay full price normal entrance, meaning she is a guest like everyone else. If you don't want to pay for that, you don't bring her at all. The below seems very colonial, doesn't it? But she wouldn't be there as a guest would she? If I wanted to take my helper as my guest then fine but I then wouldn't expect her to look after my children. The majority of people who [i'>would[/i'> take a helper would do so to look after the children (and let's face it, we all see plenty of people who take their helpers everywhere)

I would have assumed that the maids that accompany families are there to help with the kids anyway and perhaps it's in a seperate area making it easier for them to use the different buffet area? At least they're "letting" maids eat! I can imagine on many occasions that maids aren't provided with food at all!
