Does anyone know why they scan your baggage on arrival after you picked up your checked-in luggage?
People are picked out randomly.
Are they looking for anything? I was thinking ... maybe non-halal products?

They are checking anything that is against the morals of the country- Ann Summers type stuff etc:-0 Ha Ha yes thats what i think, however, if you ladies carry hair straighteners you could always get a discreet one and wrap it with cord of the straighteners so it looks like curling irons or something (ahem) Lol ;) LOL Sounds like you're speaking from experience ;-) But seriously, Lakshmi, they went through a container??? <em>edited by Buy me a Pony on 20/01/2011</em>

They are checking anything that is against the morals of the country- Ann Summers type stuff etc:-0 OK, so I'm now reading I can't bring my *** toy collection into the country in my luggage. Can I ship it in a container then? ETA: Sheesh, was my post just automatically censored? Sorry, PUI. edited by Buy me a Pony on 07/01/2011 I tried the container ploy. It didn't work, still got confiscated and I was asked to go and collect offending item which of course I never did as they wouldn't give it to me if I had.

DVD's, electrical goods, *** toys, handcuffs or anything that looks perculiar will get you signed up for an extra scan.

Have arrived into Dubai airport over 40-50 times but have only been screened once but no hassle. I would think just a random check

I got sent over to be scanned when I arrived back the other day. I didn't have anything that I shouldn't have and the guys who did the scanning asked no questions and didn't even seem bothered to be checking the screen. Just rescanned, reloaded and I was off.

I don't normally get called up to be scanned before exiting the airport but once I had some chicken sausages (halaal) and they pulled me up. The lady kept on asking me if I had chicken and I denied it saying that I only had lamb and beef. Once we walked out the airport did I realise that we actually did have chicken and the scanner picked it up. I thought this was random and they called you if you looked suspicious. I was scared that day because we probably had at least 20kg meat in one bag.

So is it illegal to bring in non-halal products? Can they get confiscated? Has anyone ever had any trouble with food products? thanks

Actually all bags are already scanned before you collect them. while it's on the conveyor - after offloading it from the arrival plane - if any thing look suspicious like metal shapes, a porter once he seen it in the scanner before it go to the baggage claim area he put a small sticker on your baggage tags - you don't see it as it's like the bar code stickers almost as a finger tip size - then they let it go, until the owner of this bag claim it, when you go out of the airport while you pass the sign ( nothing to declare ) this gates flashes red from the side of the police instead of green, so they call you to scan your bags, then ask you about this or that thing that caught the attention of the guy downstairs.... I know this for sure.

They scan everyone dont they? Well they certainly seem to if you've just got off a flight from Addis Ababa. Dubai customs don't seem to have any concerns about racial profiling!

I have no idea. We got pulled aside to be scanned for the first time last week and unless they weren't paying attention at all, they aren't looking for bottles or foodstuffs!

You notice all those different stickers on your bags? When security sees something they think is "questionable" they put a sticky on your luggage for a second look-see.
