School break time feedback

Hi Everyone,

DS has been complaining that they are not given enough time in second break (40min) to eat and the kids are being rushed to get outside. He normally doesn't eat much of his lunchbox anyways, so for him to complain about it says quite a lot.
Further to this he has also mentioned that some kids (incl. him) can't go out and play for first break if they have not finished their work. To me this feels totally wrong and seems like the less academic kids are being punished for being slower. The school day is long enough (07.30 am to 2.40pm) and then to take away precious 'air' time just doesn't seem fair to me. He is a 6 yr old boy and is starting to dislike school, while he should be encouraged. He is a very active boy who rather plays and does sports and takes less interests in the academic side, but it doesn't make it any better to keep them inside while the other kids are playing out. I am quite upset about it, but maybe I am overreacting? Is it the same situation at other schools? I will address it with the teacher, but would like to have some feedback from other mums. Thanks.

@appletiser: Thanks, I thought it might have been just me who felt it is unfair. @simpleasabc: Exactly! That is what DH and I have been saying to eachother. Especially because he is a bit slower in the reading, writing and maths. I have been thinking of changing schools, but you all know how difficult it is to get a place in the more 'preferred' school.

Perhaps he's in the wrong school for him at the moment? You really don't need him to start disliking school so early on, time enough for that later on :)

Sounds unfair to me especially towards 6 year olds! :\:
