Hi Ladies,

I am a student from the United States currently on summer break in Dubai. I am studying Business Administration with a focus on Corporate Finance and Strategy. I was hoping to get some advice/ help on how to best go about securing internships at companies in Dubai, especially consulting and accounting firms. I understand that most of them are unpaid, and I'm okay with that since I'll be getting a great experience. Any help you could provide on this matter would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

P.S. I have a residency visa for UAE which makes me eligible to work here.

Hello Everyone, I’m new to the Expat woman forum. Can anyone guide me to a relevant forum for students seeking work experience during their A levels? My daughter who’s an aspiring architect in A levels part 1 needs more work experience, for her final applications, during the upcoming spring and summer breaks. If anyone of you can guide from experience in this regard, we’ll be very grateful. Thanks

So good to see you have some possibilities springing up Nheg. I hope Derien or Busybee87 can help you. It really often is who you known and you have to love a forum for helping out:) My son is only in his first year so we have a year to sort something out. He wants to get into management consulting which I gather is not easy. We do have contacts in Australia but when we move to Dubai soon we will know nobody who can help him. He could get work experience in Australia but I would ideally like him to get work in Dubai so I can see him during his uni break. We also have the issue that his summer holidays are December - February not July- August. But we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Let us know how you go Nheg. Fingers crossed for you:)

Hi Busybee87, I applied online and connected with some of the recruiting teams/ HR personnel via LinkedIn too. I haven't visited their offices in person, but would be willing to do so if you think it would it help. Thank you so much for checking with your HR department, I appreciate it.

Hi Nheg I work for one of the big fours here. Unfortunately this year we are not planing to take as many summer interns as we normally do. However, I will still confirm this from the HR department and get back to you. Have you only applied online or did you visit the offices and drop your CV as well? Good Luck!

Thanks for the wishes! I have approached a few big companies, (the big 4 accounting + some consulting) but a lot of them don't have any sort of internship programmes. The ones that do, don't hear over the summer because business is slow, or they prefer to hire students who attend universities locally. I hear that connections and networking is really the only way to way to get some work experience - if you or your family have connections in industries where your son would want to work, it might be helpful to start talking to them soon. It'll give your son time to understand the different positions and opportunities available here and then make a decision as to whether it is wise to spend his summer here. If you let me know what sort of industry he is looking into, I'll keep my ears open and keep you updated if I hear something promising.

Hi Nheg I am afraid I can't help you but I just wanted to wish you luck. My son will be in the same position in 12 months time. He is studying Business at ANU Canberra. One of my main concerns with moving to Dubai is will it be more difficult for him to get work experience during the university holidays. Obviously I would like him to get work experience in Dubai so we can spend the holidays together but I realise this may not work out. Have you approached any companies in Dubai about doing work experience?
