Hi, hoping you ladies out there might help as google maps is not able to give me travel times in Dubai except by public transport. I am interested in the time it would take to get to Internet City by car (assuming peak hour) from the following communities:

1. Jumeira 1 (vicinity of Jumeira Baccalaurete School)
2. The Greens Community (vicinity of Greenfields Community School)
3. The Springs
4. Victory Heights Sports City
5. Arabian Ranches

At the moment I am favouring the above 2 schools for my kids because they sound a bit smaller and more personal and now I've learned youcan have dogs down that end of Jumeira. Have gone off GEMS World Academy based on some very mixed feedback on this site + the feeling that it might be very large and overwhelming for 2 kids under 10 starting mid-year.

Based on stuff I've read here and some internet research, it looks like the communities mentioned above might be ideal family focused, villas (we have a dog).

Do you have any other suggestions for expat-centred, family villas and if so, what would be the travel time from them to Internet City?

Grateful for any feedback.

Thanks seashells, emlsnre & Clairehdp Victory Heights is definitely sounding interesting when I read how close it is to those amenities. I will put it on my list to check out - am hoping I might get to come over for a few days to visit schools and check out locations to live, perhaps within the next 3 weeks. Fair comment about GWA. Maybe it was the website that made it look a bit intimidating next to the other 2 schools. That big circular staircase... Good to hear there are some positive experiences there. Claire, thanks for that info. I had no idea and your response has really clarified things. Sounds like I should suss out Motor City as well as Victory Heights. I am going to try and ring some schools later today (Sunday). Am a little concerned about the differing cut off dates between Australia and Dubai and how my kids are going to synch in with their peers over there. I am suspecting mine will be 6 to 8 months behind their cohort. I guess it all depends on the curriculum, but QLD is not strong in that regard...

I work in Internet City and from Victory Heights it takes make around 20 to 25 minutes (during what is classed as rush hour). Victory Heights is still a realtively new area, but is family friendly and it looks like the community pools will be opening soon (I take a drive to them every couple of weeks to see the progress), its a great location and only a couple of minutes from Sports city where Spinneys and the shops are, but also only 15 minutes away from Mall of Emirates & Mirdiff City Centre Malls. Thanks.

I wouldn't rule any schools out until you have actually been to see them. Before moving here we did alot of research and the school we thought would be perfect wasn't our final choice once we'd visited them all. GWA didn't feel overwhelming at all when we had a look, so I would certainly take a look for yourselves. As Claire has said already we too have friends with children there and they are very happy with it. Good luck and I am sure once it has sank in people will be happy for you all albeit a little sad to wave you off....

Yeah - there are 2 green communities. The original one - The Green Community - is the one where the Greenfields Community school is - this is the one that can take a while to get off - I can still get a bit stuck there but it does move. the other one is relatively new and it's The Green Community, Motor City - which is right next to Arabian Ranches and sandwiched between AR and Victory Heights. That is lovely too. The Greens are close by the Emirates golf Club near the Sheik Zayed Road and are apartments. I would get a school trip over booked asap - there are some great schools here - you really need to see which ones suit your kids best. Loads and loads of dogs being walked on Arabian Ranches. Happy to answer any questions you have as I have similar aged kids and they love it here.

You have not mentioned The Green Community in Motor City which would be a good option for you for green fields comm school and Internet city it's beautiful there... I have friends who are super happy with gems world academy so don't choose your school based on the comments here! My kids go to Repton and if you believed all you read on here you'd run a mile but we are very happy there and both kids lve it and have super friends there. You must visit the schools yourself -only you really know what suits your children. Good luck. THere is another Green Community? Man this is confusing. I just got over calling it "the Greens" çause I learned that was a completely different part of Dubai, but are there really 2 Green Communities? Where is the other one that is not in Motor City? Maybe I have been talking about Motor City unknowlingly??? Which one is closest to the Greenfields Community School? This school stuff is doing my head in! I think I need to get over there and see them for myself! So hard to determine what is right long distance. I want to ring the registrars but today's Friday and a holy day, is that right? The school week starts on a Sunday??? We told our kids this morning and my oldest - aged 8 - is beside himself because we are going to have to rehome some of his pets :-(. He thinks that if I call the right people in the government and take videos to show that they are clean, they will be allowed to go and return. At least we can bring our dog. My DH is off telling his mum and dad. His mum will take it very badly so the boys and I stayed home to protect them from seeing how she would react. What a day! Emotional rollercoaster. I just want to be allowed to be excited and get there!

We are on AR and my husband works In Internet city it's an easy 20/25 min drive. Is the same /similar time from victory heights and again similar from the green community but it can be a nightmare getting off the green community in the morning rush so you would need to factor in at least another 10 minutes just to cover getting off the development. You have not mentioned The Green Community in Motor City which would be a good option for you for green fields comm school and Internet city it's beautiful there. Your kids will make lots of friends very easily in either of these communities they are all very family orientated. I have friends who are super happy with gems world academy so don't choose your school based on the comments here! My kids go to Repton and if you believed all you read on here you'd run a mile but we are very happy there and both kids lve it and have super friends there. You must visit the schools yourself -only you really know what suits your children. Good luck.

It all depends on how many lanes some loony driver decides to cross over because he just missed his offramp.
