Thanks amelia,
Looks like I'll be going this weekend then :(
I had heard I had to head down to the Oman boarder but having read a few different threads I got a bit confussed... it doesn't take much though!!
Is the price still AED200, I know they can change this as when they want too!!
@Daisy92
Personally I wouldn't trust the 10 days grace. Seems a bit hit and miss and if they feel so inclined they will fine you even if you are within the 10 day period. If you scroll down this thread you will see what I wrote a few days ago about doing the visa run to Oman. You could try crossing the road and getting stamps, but as far as I am concerned, you have to go to the Oman border. Check that you have both the entry and exit stamps before you leave the visa office in Oman.
Only place I know of for lunch is Hatta Fort Hotel.
Sorry, no idea about the Cellar or a car hire company.

Hi ladies,
I thought I would jump in on this thread as I am just about to do the visa run. Do you know if you still get a 10 day grace period? My 30 days runs out on 30th but I want to go next weekend. I have heard they have stopped the 10 day grace is this true? Also, I'm a little confused... do I have to go to the Oman boarder or can I just get an exit stamp and then cross the road for a entrance stamp at the first set of port-a-cabins??? (I have a UK passport)
Can anyone recommend somewhere nice to go on route for lunch??
And..... another question... Where is The Cellar??? I quite fancy stocking up on some booze?? :)
Oh and... can anyone recommend a good car hire company??
I think that's it for now!!
TIA
Thanks for your replies everyone! Unfortunately I had to leave before I got them! Went to Hatta... it was all fine except the man at the Castle thingie where you fill in the form and get the entry/exit stamps done, didn't give me an exit UAE stamp so had to line up again somewhere else on my way out and do that. Made it back in 1 piece thank God..was a bit worried cos I went all alone and never done it before!
Hi! I have a quick question! I'm about to go for a visa run to Hatta/RAK.... not sure which yet as it depends. Thing is, my insurance doesn't cover Oman and I can't find my registration card right now. If I get Oman insurance at the border, will they ask for my registration card? I've heard about people doing visa runs via RAK where they walk across the border so maybe I should do that instead. If I do, can I get away with not having Oman insurance/registration card? Does anyone know the way, lol?
You def don t need Oman Ins
Okay, here's what you do. Drive to the RAK/Mussandam border. Park your car on the RAK side. Go in and get stamped out. When they ask for your registration and insurance tell them you're going to walk across - it's only a few meters. Walk up to the Oman window, get stamped, walk back to the RAK window and get stamped back in. Get in your car and leave for Dubai. Easy. On the way back, treat yourself to a nice lunch at The Cove or the Hilton Beach Resort and a booze run at The Cellar.
Unless you are very fit and have a lot of time on your hands, you cannot walk from Hatta, UAE to Oman for a visa run. It's about 10k.
in all the years here i havent heard that you can not go into oman, you have to get the stamps in and out for both countries, you can walk between the checkpoints if you dont want to spend money on the insurance etc, but if you drive you need to have omani insurance, they will sell it to you there if private car, but if rental car you have to get it from them and have permissions etc even at hatta etc.

Hi Advice----
My trip on 4th Jan was my first ever but had no problem with hubby in tow, both born in UK & with British passports so I don't know why we were singled out for this "special treatment" - Thanks.
The only thing I can think of is we don't have a "visa" as such - just a UAE entry stamp for 30 days from Al Ain border on Dec 4th..??
Hi DP
If you go to Hatta you are not "technically" going into Oman (unless you want to of course) You just get an exit stamp in p/port to leave Dubai walk/drive across the road & get an entry stamp back into Dubai. Thats all there is to it!
PS we have British passport so do not know if it is the same for others??
Good luck - Jo
We've never been allowed to cross the road and get the entry stamp, each time we've done a visa run have tried and have always been told to drive to the Oman border, get the Oman entry and exit stamp there and come back for your UAE entry stamp.
Even though we've said that we're going straight back to Dubai they've always asked to see the insurance papers in Oman.

Hi DP
I did the visa run last week - hopefully for the last time. I hold a British passport.
You need the road off the Sh. Z. Road for Nad al Sheba and then follow the signs Hatta/Oman and it is a straight road from there. Roughly an hour and half drive. Keep your passport at the ready as there are various check points along the way.
When you get to Hatta they will stamp your passport and you then drive on to the Oman border.
As you approach the Oman office you will see a sign for 'Visa renewal' pointing into the first car park on your left. No need to go any further than that. Just park in there and go into the office.
Fill in the form that you will get at the desk on your left as you enter the building and take it to the renewal window. Tell him that you are going straight back to Dubai (I presume you are) and there then shouldn't be any need for insurance documents unless you are in a hire car - you maybe asked for them if you are. If you are driving on into Oman, yes, you will need insurance. He will put an entry and exit stamp in your passport and charge you 200 dhs. for doing so.
Drive back to Hatta, stop to show them your entry and exit stamps, and you are done !
Make sure that anyone going with you also takes their passport.
