Morning Ladies,

I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis in both knees. Since Thursday night, my right knee has flared up and the fluid has been gradually biulding to the point that I cannot walk anymore. I urgently need to have it aspirated. I have been with Dr Bhavna Khan at the American Hospital for 2yrs now and trust her 100%, however she is currently on vacation until the 7th August :( I am extremely reluctant to try another Dr, but unfortunately do not have a choice right now!

Can anyone recommend another Dr please?

My son is recently diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, he is just 14yrs old. He was advised to be injected with Humira. We have been to different hospital for check up & all. Humira is very expensive & I don't know how we can provide him with the medication. Anyone who knows any institution who can help? I am living in Dubai with my daughter & my son & we are like devastated in this situation.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and been herev4 years. I used dr mofti for 3 years he in my opinion was the best doctor I have ever seen. He supported me whilst having a baby and controlling my arthritis. He does lots of charity work and works well with educating and making people aware of arthritis. He works In umm sequim now from his own clinic. I would still be his patient if his clinic accepted my insurance. But I now see dr khan in American she is lovely and is a very good doctor. I wish I could say the same about Dr Mofti :( He prescribed meds for me, without asking whether we were planning a family in the future. It so happens that the meds he prescribed work against conception, and can result in miscarriages. This we only found out when I changed to Dr Khan, who immediately stopped the meds as we were planning on starting a family in 3 months time. Surely seeing a dr is a two way conversation, that was one of the first things I asked. I also do a lot of research on all meds I've been on over the years. The medications for arthritis needs not to be taken lightly. A doctor is a personal choice all we can do is recommend. Also each doctor will have different opinions on all drugs. I have been living with RA for almost 20yrs, out of which it has been dormant for almost 10yrs and then flared up again a few years ago.

BFC - will mail you offline in a bit! MirdifIngrid - if I am not happy with Dr Humeirah tomorrow, I may try and schedule an appointment with Dr Barwish! I've had cortisone injections in 2009, and never had a flare up since, but it left me bed- ridden for a few days & with a very active 8 month old, I have a feeling this will not be an option this time :(

Dr Bassel Barwish has moved to a clinic called Health Call in Health Care City. To make an appointment, the number is 04-363-5343. Parking is easy and free if you get your card stamped. He is great, prescribed medicines I could take when pregnant/trying to breastfeed. He is very sympathetic and remembers you from one appointment to the next. He doesn't suffer fools and does ask you to be on time for your appointment so that he can give his time fairly to each patient.

Plumie, that is not the information I have for Celebrex. It is possible that the manufacturers are using the standard line because they have not licensed it for use in lactation. If you think you may like to revisit the use of Celebrex with your doctor, just let me know and I can send you some info to discuss with him/her. xx

Thank you ladies! I've decided to take the chance and booked an appointment with Dr Humeirah tomorrow afternoon. Based on internet research she comes highly recommended in the field of Rheumatology and has been honored an award in 2010 for her work. So, I'm putting all my eggs in the basket and will give her a try. BFC - I will definitely take you up on your offer should Dr prescribe me Meds which does not specify the effects on lactation. I normally take Celebrex when I have flare ups, however it is clearly stated on the package insert that it is not to be used during lactation. Either that, or the breastfeeding Mum has to give up breastfeeding - which is not going to happen in my case!!!

I have been living with RA for almost 10 years now, all this time in Dubai. The number of reumatologist is still really small here, so i tried almost all of them at different times, even some private doctors in Sharjah. Back then Dr. Mofti was in the American hospital , i quit him after my second appointment because he started hugging me and being weird, i was 21 yo and too young to make fuss about it, so i just never went back. Humaira Badsha - she used to work in Bone&Joint Center in Emirates Towers. I thought she was a blessing, the whole center was great! I really wish it was still there... However, since she started her private practice, moved to the villa in Jumairah, things weren`t the same anymore. I went twice, both times was charged 600 DHS for 5 and 7 minutes 'consultations'. The fact that she barely talked to me, didn`t ask about my meds, supplements, bugged me [b'>so much[/b'> that i can`t even remember how expensive blood tests were. She had other patients waiting, conveyor belt style, too commercial. No, thank you. I had stopped all my meds since December 2010 and gave up on the local doctors. So far so good. I have to mention Dr. Darwish who used to be in Welcare hospital. I had a few appointments at my worst flare-ups. Very decent, very humane and kind, eased the pain, explained to me everything. Did not try to get rid of me after 5 minutes. I saw him more than 6 years ago, so i don`t know how he`s now. I hope you will get better soon:)

Plumie, a few meds are contraindicated while breastfeeding but many are not as they either do not pass into breastmilk or pass through in such small amounts that a child will not be affected. If there are specific medicines you are concerned about, feel free to drop me a line or give me a ring and with my Breastfeeding Counsellor hat on I can look up research-based info on their lactation category. Generally this info is not found in the medicine package inserts (it's complicated and expensive for the pharmaceutical companies to license drugs for use during lactation, but this does not necessarily mean they are not safe) and many doctors/pharmacists do not have access to the specific drug info and in my experience will over-generalize one way or the other. have you seen Dr Mofti before at the American? I don't know where he is now though Have seen Dr Mofti in 2009 and unfortunately will never go back to him! He has since left American and now practices out of a clinic in Jumeirah! Lettie: DH found Dr Humeirah on a google search, however I am sceptical to see her! I may now try and make an appointment after your recommendation - thanks! I can't take any pain nor anti-inflammatory meds as I am breast-feeding so am really in a catch 22 situation :(

I can recommend dr Humeirah Badsha from the Al Biraa Arthritis & Bone Clinic in Al Wasl Road, Villa # 1029, tel. no. 04 348 7031. I am very happy with her. I hope your knees get sorted out soon, to be in such pain is difficult to describe to someone else, and even more difficult to cope with.

Unfortunately there is nobody covering for her! Am in tears with the thought of seeing someone else as I have had a few bad experiences before finding her! But urgently need to have the water drained!
