After searching and searching all over Dubai I have resigned myself to having to buy a wide stair gate (Babydan configure) online. The problem is it weighs 23kg and through Royal Mail Parcel Force will be over GBP150 and Aramex Shop n Ship is over AED1500!!!

Any suggestions as these are crazy prices!!

Also might be worth giving Whites (www.whiteandcompany.co.uk) a try they ship to the Middle East regularly, think UK armed forces use them for relocations etc. I've only shipped larger loads than yours with them and they offered best price and great service.

Try https://www.transglobal.org.uk We used them to ship over an inflatable spa. The box was around 1 cubic metre and weighed about 43kg. Came to about £160. Some quotes we received were over twice the price of that. They are a broker so they have accounts with DHL, UPS etc. and the prices they offer are usually far cheaper than booking direct.

Surprisingly, although sometime ago I used DHL online as it was much cheaper than anywhere else. If you are not in a rush for it maybe you could contact pickfords and have it placed on a shared container and shipped here. Good luck.

Thanks ladies, I'll check Home Centre, its not one I thought of! The width is 155cm which is just far wider than anything I found so far, so thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone actually had something made here with good experience? I have to admit everytime I have tried to have something made, from curtains to gardens, I've always been disappointed... my bad luck I suppose! Not tried Skynet Couriers... are they cheaper than Aramex?

How wide do you need? We spent ages trying to find one wide enough and just when I'd given up and was about to get one made I found one in Home Centre (MCC) which was perfect (with it's extensions) and is much more solid than any of the other's I have ever had in any country. I'm really pleased with it. Might be worth a look. I didn't think of looking in Home Centre - we were looking for something else when I found them. I agree - it's probably cheaper to get one made here than send that from the UK. Or else do you have anyone coming over on business? We get some heavy things brought over by DH colleagues who are coming for a meeting on a business ticket (so masses of luggage allocation) but normally are only bringing hand luggage! Cheeky I know, but we have a good relationship with some of his colleagues, so they don't mind at all.

Surely it would be cheaper to get one made here to your exact specification.
