I use Skype on my iPhone that was bought over in the UAE. I don't recall having to do anything special. This is when I'm at home in range of wireless internet, not tried it on the mobile phone network though.

You can skype and yahoo messenger from an iPod touch. ;) Dally, do those functions work in Dubai? We have just got the kids iPod touches as a sweetener for the move. They are devestated to be leaving their friends, particularly my oldest who is very close to his bestie. Anyway, the bestie has a "touch" and we told them they can use it for skyping, but then I heard somewhere else that skype gets blocked over there and you can't use it... Just wondering...

Well, at least I can't use that as an excuse not to start doing any sports but my shoes however are not really up to the mark, LOL.

I got a nice sporty armband to stick my Ipod Touch in, in case I take up sports but I haven't reached to that stage yet but if I ever do I'm equipped for it! Preparation is everything LOL!

The new ipod shuffle is fab - its touch screen, has a clip, you can also add the nike run to it...... you can have play lists and also shows you what you are playing.

Mainly use the Ipod Touch to entertain my the 2 year old and now 3 year old when on the go. It has all sorts of applications that are free to download for small kids, lots of photos from my hard disk and lots of music as well as a few kids films. As soon as I take it out little Miss Princess demands to get it so I hardly ever get to use it myself! Easy to use, even my 2 year old could use it.

I think the new ipod shuffle does allow you to create playlists and has a function which allows you to hear title or artist of current song and/or switch between playlists. Certainly the older ones didn't have this function as we have the older style shuffle. The shuffle is small, doesn't have a screen but is great for sports as is so small and holds plenty of music (eg my shuffle has 160 songs = 10hours and is under 1GB of memory used). This link gives quite a good comparison between the different models. http://www.apple.com/ipod/compare-ipod-models/ Oh and agree with BMAP, depends very much what you are using for. I love the shuffle for my walks or aerobics but not that great for anything else, I have a nano and DH has I-pod which we use in the car, travels etc <em>edited by SL13 on 19/01/2011</em>

Throwing my 2 bob's worth in: An iPod [b'>shuffle [/b'>is smaller in size and lighter in weight but doesn't have the same functionality as the others. You can put a reasonable amount of songs on it (not a whole lot, but reasonable for a workout, say) but I don't believe you can create playlists. An iPod [b'>nano [/b'>is larger but still slim and light enough to fit on a case strapped to your arm. You can buy it with different sized memory banks depending on how much music you want to store on it. eg I have a 2 gigabyte nano (not that big) and at the moment I have 209 songs on it but I don't think it's full. You can create playlists - eg by artist or mood. I have a playlist for slower songs for doing weights and one with faster songs for cardio work. You could also store photo's on it but they would be pretty small to look at. An iPod [b'>classic [/b'>is the next bigger one. Probably too big to put comfortably on your arm for sports, but I have one in my car. It is 160 Gigabytes and holds a huge number of songs and playlists (I'm talking a thousand + at least). The iPod [b'>touch [/b'> is like an iPhone without the phone. You can play music, games, movies etc on it. This is the one the kids will be begging you for once they get bored with their Nintendo DS's. You should be able to transfer music across all of them via iTunes. iTunes is an online application that allows you to purchase music online or store your own discs in a music library, select what you want and move it to your iPod of choice. Clear as mud? Its confusing! But I hope in there somewhere there was something that helped. What do you want to use your iPod for I guess is the question? Personally I would get bored with a shuffle as it wouldn't have the memory to cater to my moods for different music.

all i know is the shuffle is cute, small and made for sports, and holds much less music than its bigger cousin. Oh, and everytime I try to have anything to do with itunes my laptop dies a horrible death which costs a fortune to fix. which could have something to do with the operator, but who knows?

The difference, I believe, is like the difference between carrying around a computer and carrying around a walkman. A friend of mine who worked at Apple was appalled that I jogged with my ipod - saying that eventually I would break the Ipod because it was like jogging with a computer in my hand. He said that's why they made the shuffle. But yes, you can transfer music from an ipod to a shuffle, using your itunes software. (Experts, feel free to correct me if I'm totally wrong!)
