Which car seat for a 4 year old?

Hi

My DD has outgrown her car seat but I don't know which one to go for next. DD1 was in a high back booster by this age but that was before I knew that she should really have still had the 5 point harness.

I saw a Graco (?) in Babyshop which had the harness but the cover is velour and I was concerned that it would get really hot in the summer.

DD is tall for her age so the seats which convert at 18kg are no good as she's too tall for the harness.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thank you all. We're going to have to go with one that's available here so it looks like it'll be the Maxi Cosi. Sals B, sorry, I didn't mean to worry anyone, hope you have a great time with them. My DD1 was in a high back booster from 3 and was fine.

Hi, I used Britax Two Way Elite for my 3-5 year old when the rearfacing Maxi Cosi Mobi was to small and can highly recommend it! I used it rearfacing untill I decided to turn it (4,5 years old), and it is approved up to 25 kg rear AND forward facing with the seats 5 points harness. But havent seen them here, maybe you can try Mothercare. If not it might be possible to order it from Europe. Have a good weekend,

Yay for the grand kids coming! But for the boosters, it's more about how tall they are (not their age). They should sit in booster seats until the top of the seatbelt (shoulder belt) is laying directly across their bodies (like on adults) -- opposed to across their necks or under their armpits. Hope that makes sense. THe booster will def be fine for my grand daughter, she turns 7 just before she comes, cannot wait. If it is a high backed booster it is likely that it will be fine for the 4yr old, unless she is unusually tiny. All high backed boosters have a guide to fit the seatbelt through which will keep the belt off her neck and on her shoulder. You just need to make sure that the guide is positioned correctly.

I have 2 booster seats for when the kids come over, and the age on them is from 3 years old!!!! now im confused, are they safe?????? Personally I wouldn't use a booster for a 3 year old. My 2 grand children are 4 and 6, so the seat should be ok, do you think. Grand daughter coming soon, yippee. Yay for the grand kids coming! Thanks all. I think it'll have to be a high back booster but I've read that a child's body isn't developed enough to cope with an impact with just the adult seatbelt across a booster until they're at least 5. It is very important to make sure that the belt goes accross their hip bones, not across their tummies and that the other belt it not resting on their neck at all but falls across the shoulder and down the chest. The best now it to keep the rear facing till 5 years... I wish i'd known this sooner as I had already turned my two forward facing when I found this out and now I can't turn them backwards again.

Did you see this one here? http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3980774 We bought it in the US because it would last us (hopefully) until DD was out of the final booster chair stage. It is 5 point now and will last until 45kg. It doesn't seem to get too hot for us in the Summer here. Thank you, that's the one I was looking at in Babyshop but they've only brought in one option here which is brown and a kind of velvety fabric. I'll go back and have another look at it.

We got a booster seat from mothercare for our 4 year old, I don't think they need the proper 'baby seats' from 4 years depending on height, that was what the guy recommended in the shop, they are really helpful in there if you take your child in they can advise.

If she is too tall for the 5 point harness, then it is safer (IMHO) to be in the high back booster. Graco make good ones. My 6yo is very comfy in his and loves the cup holders that he stashes things in. Don't forget that the 'groupings' are based on the 'average' child... clearly yours is not of 'average' height so you need to adjust to the next level...

graco is not good quality. I would go for the maxicosi, I bought them from baby shop. THey are really good (I'm talking about booster which are the proper seats for this age).

Thanks, I think it's what I'll have to go for but was hoping there'd be an alternative. DD's under 18kg but is 110cm.

At 4yrs I put my DD into a high backed booster. She was 20kg and I couldn't find a 5 point harness that allowed a weight above 18kg.
