I have the most persistant chesty cough, does anyone know what I'm allowed or is safe to take? Can't get to docs until tomorrow, any advice please?

My doc called me to say the only thing I can take is the prospan, the ivy leaf one! So I'm going to stick to the honey, lemon and water for now.

Im in the same boat as you are, no cough syrop was prescribed to me. I'm just drinking lots of hot tea/water with honey, gargling with salt, all natural remedies.

My immune system went so low when i was at the last stage of pregnancy, i had all sorts of flus, ear infections and so on.. and my doc prescribed me Mucoslovan for my cough.. It was perfectly safe to use it

have a look on http://www.babycenter.com/0_chart-over-the-counter-medications-during-pregnancy_1486462.bc I have Benylin at home and it just says check with a doctor first. normally they say do not take during pregnancy so maybe that could be an option? Hope this helps

Yep they recmd nothing!! I had a really bad cold when I was pregnant and felt c*&^ only thing the doc's will give you is Ivy Leaf Syrup which tastes horrid and I don't think it did much. Best thing is hot chocolate with loads of marshmellows and squirty cream , does nothing for your ills but certainly has a feel good factor :)

Some study in NZ showed that taking a teaspoon of honey is as effective as cough syrup. Tastes a lot nicer too!

No cough syrup. Just drink hot water with lemon,honey and some ginger in it. Really, we can't take any? I've been doing this but the cough won't go! It's so annoying!
