Hello... i need help i am no sure what to do! i fell pregnant by accident.! and expecting my 3rd baby! i have two girls, with my first one i was diagnose with incompetent cervix in australia found out at 22 week of pregnancy was hospital for 3 months. with my second pregnancy when back to australia to see a top obsteo. to have her as i wasn't in peace to have baby in dubai and wasn't sure what to expect. i had a Shirodkar cerclage stitch ( at 14 weeks) with general anesthesia. and later remove with a spinal block at 37 weeks. This time mu hubby and i don't want to be separated for so long and he doesn't want to miss the birth of the baby. so we are considering in having baby here! the only problem is that i don't know of any good doctors that do cerclage stitch. i hope someone could help me... if they have had this here in dubai... and what doctor they used? what stitch they used here? what hospital? etc... help will be really appreciated. thank Dr. Elsa placed my shirodkar stitch and it was removed without anesthesia a couple weeks before my delivery.

I have not had a stitch done but have friends who have. There is a Dr. with the Fakih IVF clinic who does these regularly and so is sure to be very good at the brief surgery and another with Dr. Maia Danielson at the American Hospital. I know both of these women trusted the doctors and had very good outcomes. At the very least they may be able to point you i the direction of a high risk OB/GYN who can so the procedure. Hi WB72, I had a cervical cerclage put in in my 14th week of pregnancy due to having a very short cervix after a previous cone biopsy for abnormal cells. Dr Luthra at Medcare put the cerclage on in ,I was advised that i did not need to go on bedrest although at times I did tend to stay home alot and I didn't excercise etc. I was also advised to register at Al Wasl as was at risk of pre-term labour(I had one scare at 31 weeks and was admitted to Al Wasl for a few days with contractions which they managed to stop). My cerclage was removed at al wasl at week 38 and I didn't actually go into labour untill my due date. As far as I know the procedure carries more risks the later it is done-mainly risk of puncturing the amniotic fluid bag.Nobody can tell if your cervix will be incompetent so here they tend to aiar on the side of caution and put the cerclage in as a preventative measure where as in the UK they monitor and only put it in in emergency. I would ask for another appointment with you Dr so she can explain everything to you and then if you are not happy seek a second opinion.Also register at Al Wasl/Latifa. Hi WB Please get an appointment asap and get this sorted my open cervix was discovered at 24 weeks which was really late and only one doc agreed to put in a stitch. It was successful and got me till 27 weeks where i had an emergency c-section to deliver my baby due to a life threatening infection. Also since you have what doctors would consider an incompetent or shortening cervix you would be considered high risk and i cant urge you enough to register at Latifa (Al Wasl) hospital they have the best NICU in UAE i pray that you will never need it but please don't make the same mistakes that I did. I really don't want to scare or stress you out but please be vigilant and take care of yourself and the baby.

WB, good luck to you too. I'm sorry to be blunt but if your doctor is not answering your doubts, you need someone who can answer everything and make you feel safe and good about the decisions that you are going to take. Hope you won't have to be on bed rest all though out your pregnancy! S

Hi WB, it sounds like your cervix length is 2.5 cm, therefore, she prefers to watch it. In my case, mine measured a little less than 3 cm at 15 weeks. But am high risk anyway due to twins this time and a previous pregnancy loss due to preterm delivery at 30 weeks. Am only about 28 weeks now, but the stitch has helped me get this far. Am on modified bed rest since 16 weeks. However, I know a friend here in Dubai who had a stitch around 12 weeks and was leading a normal life, going to work. That's because it was her first pregnancy and a single baby. Bed rest or not, therefore, is case to case basis. If the stitch is placed electively (before the cervix opens), then in most cases docs don't recommend bed rest if everything else with the pg is normal. Thank you LZ and thank you SB you have both been so kind and addressed this issue in a way my doctor did not. I feel so much better and feel more confident moving forward. All the very best to you both and especially LZ on your pregnancy! :-)

If its only shortened, perhaps she wants to keep you under observation, by doing frequent cervical checks. But if it's opened already, I think she must put a stitch now. Because as the baby grows in weight, it will only put more pressure on cervix. Am seeing Dr. Elsa in City Hospital, who did my stitch. I would highly recommend her for you to get a second opinion. Let me know if you have more questions. Little Zulu thank you. It was all so fast that I was unable to get the full story as to what was going on. Here is what happened: The doctor was doing a routine ultrasound and at one point called out to the nurse in arabic that something was 2.5CM, but I did not catch what she was measuring. After the exam she said my cervix 'was a little open' and that she wanted to watch it as she might have to do a stitch. Then she switched right away to discuss CVS vs. Amnio, said she preferred I do amnio because its later given that I have a tear in my placenta at 10 weeks (which healed) and now the cervix issue. She then gave me the number of the fetal medicine center and told me to make an appt. Sorry this is not much information. Did your stitch stop the problem or are you still high risk for miscarriage and are you on total bed rest? I suppose they fetal center will scan me and then I will know more? Perhaps I should take advice here as you the other responder suggested and get a second opinion. Thank you again for responding!

The stitches, i know will help during this pregnancy and so you will have to be on bed rest for the rest of your pregnancy. if you are unsure, why don't you go for a 2nd opinion? who is your gynae? I'd recommend Dr Andrea. She has her own clinic on al wasl road, do a search here for her address. Reason I recommend her is she won't do any unnecessary procedures just to get more money but she will do what is best for you both and your bub. Good luck. Thank you so much. Afternoon ladies - hoping someone here might have had a similar experience and could shed some light. Everything with the fetus is fine: moving around, strong heartbeat however yesterday the doctor said my cervix was open. She said if this continued she would have to stitch it up to keep me from miscarrying. Which I am fine with. I have a few questions - please forgive any ignorance: 1. Why is the doctor waiting to give the stitch? If this cervix is open doesn't that mean it needs to be closed ASAP or can a cervix close up again on its own and remain closed? 2. Will this stitch certainly solve this issue or is there only a chance? 3. Will the stitch mean I will have to be on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy - should I be lucky enough to bring it to term inshallah? I am fine doing whatever needs to be done but I would love to hear from anyone here had a similar situation? What was, if you don't mind sharing, the outcome? I have read only doom and gloom. Thanks again!
