Hello ladies

Last night i gave formula (similac) to my 5 month old girl. She finished at 9 and around 1130pm vomitted in her sleep.. She vommited thrice and we took her to medcare which was not a good experience.. They said to give motilium incase she vimits again but iur doc said not to at all.. She has not vomitted again and doc recommended to use pedialyte.. Lo is most of the time on expressed breast milk and only once in a while when im short of milk i give her formula.. I had lots of milk frozen but my bad luck all got spoilt...
She takes usually 180ml but has not been taking much today...ive recently started rice cereal her first solid which she does not like at all. And gve her one spoon with 40 ml breast milk and rest bottle expressed milk to finish the feed..
I have been asked not to give formula but pedialyte for next day or two if im short of expressed milk...not certain how pedialyte should be used and whether to be combined with breast milk.. Also when short of expressed milk dont know what to do..should i then give pecilyte and how much...has anyone faced similar situation??

Thanks

Thanks for your advice ladies.. Green-ish she is only on expressed reast milk..she started refusing the breast 2 months back..this is a regular formula she uses but uses only once in a while when im short of expressed milk.. She normally takes 180ml per feed but today leaving 60 to 80 mlin every feed... She looks beter but im so worried that i will fall short of milk and expressing every 3 hours..l apparently there is no stock of pedialyte in uae but only pediatric electralyte exist ( dunno if i spelt the correct) Babylicious if she vomits again i will try the home remedy..thank you once again

I can suggest u a home reedy for vomitting, that works wonder even on new borns. Take a half glass of water, put half t.spoon of fennel seeds and a small cinnamon stick, Boil it altogether. boil it till the water is left about 1 tablespoon. Now strain it and give that 1 tablespoon of juice to your baby. gudluck

Oh sherry...these little ones can be such a worry. :( Are you still breastfeeding her or only expressed milk? If she's nursing from you, I'd suggest putting her to the breast as often as she's interested. This will give her all of the food and water she needs. The dr's would (should?) only be suggesting pedialyte if she's showing signs of dehydration. If the vomiting was only that one night and she's drinking well since then, the pedialyte may not be needed. Most breastfed babies hate it anyway. ;) She's too little to be given an electrolyte solution alone so she needs either breastmilk or formula. The formula you gave last night...is that her usual brand? If it is and she's usually fine with it, perhaps try giving it to her in small amounts but more often so she gets the full amount needed for a day...this advice only if you are not breastfeeding her. Is she producing enough pale, wet nappies? Is she alert when she's awake. I would also suggest stopping the rice cereal until she's fully recovered. When she's 100% better, that would be the time to come back here and get lots of great advice on starting solids. You can skip the rice cereal (wallpaper paste ;) ) completely. :) edited by Green-ish on 29/03/2012
