I've also posted this on the main forum....

Does anybody else have the problem of what to do about their little ones getting into the kitchen in the two bedroom villa? I've had two 'quotes' from carpenters and to be honest am a bit shocked! I'm trying to see if I can get standard ones for the kitchen access and will probably have to get something made for the bottom of the stairs...

The stair alternative is that we have the first five or so steps accessible to him and start the gate from between the two walls... I read in the mothercare brochure back in the UK that stairgates are in fact supposed to be started from three or so steps up so little one can practice climbing stairs. In this case it would be three steps to a landing then a 90 degree turn and two more until it's possible to fix the gate to the wall. This is due to an awkward metal bannister situation at the bottom of the stairs. I hope this makes sense - am a little sleep deprived and trying my best to figure this out!!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thank you Scotsmumofone! I have actually worked it all out now (can you believe with algebra in the end and a combination of three babygates and their components!). It's not as dodgy as it sounds and has worked out really well - got the gates from babyshop, the brand is Summer if anyone else is interested and they were AED345 each. So I will have a secure kitchen and safe stairs!!

Hi Just kidding website is selling ones that extend to 140cm which is good. We've really struggled to find any. Premaman in Dubai mall had one and said they didn't know when they'd next get delivery.... Going to order online, says 24hr delivery Yippee!

Thanks Susandiaz - there's something v similar in babyshop that I can get today - just the stairs a potential problem... although been sat around waiting for DEWA (bahhh) and watching my son on the first couple of steps getting down very carefully on his own - very proud of himself!
