Thanks Kermi - Will get the card! Lucy - not at all - helps with the budgeting (if only we had known!!!) the LO insurance is just shy of 4000dhs - Shocking hey! - but my premium is rated so not sure if that is high or normal - best get a quote! :) Its been an expensive year! FYI when doing claims for LO make sure you fill in the claim form correctly as they are not paying one set of DR's fees - 500dhs as it was on the same day as Vacs and it is not stipulated that Dr was to check baby not give Vacs - I am not impressed! but ho hum! Good luck with everything!

thanks all Ibakari & Kermi, I think I'll get a health card for free vaccinations. Vixster, I'm also AXA Regional 1. How much is the fee to add a child, if you dont mind me asking? I think a combination of health card and insurance would be the safest bet...

I also have a health card so could someone please explain? can I get LO vacs free with that? what is the process? x edited by vixster on 21/04/2011 Your baby needs its own (DOHMS) health card. Then you can go to the Primary Health Care Center for your area (see here http://www.dha.gov.ae/en/Facilities/HealthCenters/Pages/default.aspx ) for vaccinations. They open a file and give you an appointment acc. to the DOHMS vaccination schedule.

Re Insureance - Child does need to be on Adults - so you need to weigh up costs - do you or husband have insurance - if so add child on which ever policy you want - if they cover vacs will only be to 500dhs (depending on policy and company) I am with AXA regional 1 (we plan to have a baby again within 2 years and I didn't have insurance) and my lo is on mine (silly error as DH doesn't have ins and we could have done LO and DH together and be cheaper - RG1 covers 500dhs per year vacs - as the first lot cost 1100+ and 500dhs dr fee! - still arguing about claim as they only paid 500 for vacs and not the 500 drs fee (400 as -100dhs excess)! I also have a health card so could someone please explain? can I get LO vacs free with that? what is the process? x <em>edited by vixster on 21/04/2011</em>

I don't think it would be possible to get the baby his/her own separate insurance. Any child under 18 needs to be covered with at least one adult. As Kermi said, for vaccination, the best route would be using the Health Card and going to a government clinic. That's what i'm hoping to do.

No advice on insurance, but another option: Did you consider to get LO a health card? Vaccinations would be free then. Not sure about other medical expenses, but maybe worth to find out.

Hi all, Our baby is due in May and I am trying to budget for medical expenses, clinic/doctor visits, vaccinations, etc and it just occured that we'll probably better off getting him a medical insurance? I'm considering adding the baby to my cover (currently with AXA) or possibly getting his own. Any recommendations? Thanks!
