My 2 month old is refusing his evening top up bottle. He is breast fed all day and was taking a bottle up till now. When I try now, he chews on the teat and tries to vomit if I keep trying. Any advice would be appreciated as to how he can take his formula again as well as me feeding him.
Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. Yes I was advised (as baby had severe jaundice) to top up and I feel baby sleeps longer with it although that might just be my lack of confidence in my milk as he gets v colicky with both. My milk supply is good maybe I should just breast feed as my baby is telling me! Yes continue breastfeeding and dreamfeed will help your baby to sleep longer. Top ups can decrease your milk supply.

if you have a facebook have a look on La leche leaugue https://www.facebook.com/groups/lll.uae/. They will answer all your questions about feeding your baby. You are doing really great thing for your baby, I would say leave a bottle and keep breastfeeding, and you will see that you will have a plenty of milk. And one more thing the baby is sleeping longer after formula, as is much harder to digest than breast milk, so small body using much energy for that. The colic's are normal at this age and they are nor always associated with the food. Although you might look at your diet, especially diary products.Another thing you can do is to drink camomile tea, fenugreek ( increase milk supply so be carefull), that will also help your baby digestive system.

Just curious- were you asked to supplement the baby with formula? Why do you want to introduce top ups at this stage if your milk supply is good. Anyway try using nipple shield while breast feeding for a few days and then try bottle if it can't be avoided. edited by mssassy on 19/11/2013
