Hi Ladies,

Sorry for the long post...

I will be flying (first time with a baby)to India along with my 4 month old baby with emirates and I wanted to know how do I carry expressed Breast milk in cabin? Emirates has told me that I can carry 'as much as the baby needs during flight' so then what about the commute from home to airport, waiting at the airport and the journey from airport to home in india. When questioned, the executive casually said that's fine. Im really not convinced with tht casual tone of the executiv and I don't want to land up at security and throw away the precious milk. My baby drinks every two-three hours and I would need at least 3-4 bottles of 100ml (on a Avg). I was planning on taking the medela cooler box with ice pack and goto know that's not allowed in cabin, so how do I take it in cabin without the milk spoiling. Secondly I have a huge stash and I want to carry more in the check in baggage is it advisable to do so? I was planning on filling 4 medela bottles and putting it in the cooler bag and checking it in(since the cooler bag is not allowed in cabin). Has anyone flown under similar circumstances? I would really appreciate your suggestions on first - how do I take 3-4 100ml bottles in cabin and secondly is it ok to check in the extra ones. thanks! Xx

Thank you Ladies! Have you hand carried more than 100ml in a bottle without any prob or is it mandatory to stick to 100 ml?according to emirates the cooler bag is allowed as a part of hand baggage but not the ice pack. Nasia - when you say Ice Arnd do u mean cubes of ice around or ice pack? Also, is it okay to carry extra milk in suitcases as check-in baggage. thanks! Xx I meant both actually: I had ice packs (freezing boards) inside the cooler bag and frozen ice cubes outside the bag in a carrier bag ( but that was provided by the lounge staff inside the airport). As I said, I do not remember the quantities of milk but looking at my bottles I see they are 150ml and I *think* I had them full. But can't remember for sure I I guess it's safer to stick to allowed 100ml.

I was traveling with breast milk last summer. I had fresh milk and some frozen as well (in cooler bag plus ice around it). I don't even know the quantity but it was definitely more than 400ml. I didn't have any problem, no checks done for quantity and no tasting needed ;) Emirates crew very accommodating, offered to keep spare milk in their fridges. Good luck with you flight.

It is okay to take 100ml bottles up to a certain amount They are pretty flexible here when it comes to baby milk as I have seen mothers go through the security checks with them. The cooler bag could be part of your hand luggage I asked the ladies I work with who have babies and they said that it was no problem They may ask you to taste it though :-) and do inform them of what you have
