I am a bit confused. I checked the website but it does not say what documents are needed. Do i have to register the baby in the embassy and get her a British birth certificate first or just send a certified local birth certificate?

this was years ago, but when i had my ds here in abu dhabi, i had to get the local birth cert then the brit one, and apply for passport, i started on day he was born and i got his passport 3 weeks later (this was in abu dhabi at the embassy when they did it there and that took 10 days)

I got my 6 mth old a passport 3 wks ago. It depends on what grounds ur baby is entitled to British citizenship. In my case I (the mum) was born in UK. I didn't want to post the docs overseas,as I was planning to go to Uk. So applied in person there and it only took 2 days to get it. I didn't need to register her birth at all, but she was born in Australia so I took her Aussie birth certificate and passport in person to IPS office with my own British passport. That's all I needed,besides photos. Even paying the express cost was cheaper and quicker than doing it at home.

I think that is the person filling out the form, so in my case I as the mother was the informant. If anything is completed incorrectly they will tell you at the embassy and you can complete a new form. :-)

Hi Leen Think it took a week - went with all the docs and thnk it cost about 1000 aed (but can't really remember - still suffering post pregnancy memory loss!)

Did this recently - just got the passport back last week. Went to British Embassy to get the birth registered and the british birth certificate then all i needed to send for passport was the passport application, british birth certificate, two passport photos and credit card authorisation. If you do it without the british birth certificate, the docs you need to send with the passport application are your and your husband's passports, baby's local birth certificate, parents long birth certificates and marriage certificate - think that was all but not sure if you can send copies or have to send originals. HTH Thank you ladies. Natashab, how long does it take for the registration and british birth certificate to be issued?

Hi Think I sent it around 20th April and got it back on 18th May so approx a month but there were two bank holidays during this time with the royal wedding and may bank holiday so could possibly usually be a bit quicker.
