Hello All,

I do not currently have any maternity coverage and have paid for the antenatal package at City Hospital and plan on paying for the delivery package at City as well but I'm wondering what the extra costs are for any of you who have had your baby on a hospital package (not just exclusive City Hospital Delivery Package payers). i know about the extra circumcision costs if you're having a boy and the extra costs if you end up having/needing an epidural......but assuming there are no complications, how much extra should i expect to pay on top of the delivery package charge of 12,500 AED??

TDB, what are the delivery costs at Latifa? I had to go there for emergency care and liked their ER over City's ER care but when I looked at their packages the antenatal is only 500 AED less than at City. Are the delivery costs different?? True... on the face of it, it doesn't seem much cheaper *but*: a) You are much less likely to end up with a cs at LH b) If you do have a cesarean birth it is *much* cheaper than in AH, City etc (I paid about 12k including private room) c) There are little or no extras added on (the only one I can recall is the individual room fee - everything else was free) d) Once you have paid for the antenatal package (5k?), should you require admission while pg it is v v cheap (I paid AED360 for one night, countless tests, scans etc when I was admitted for dehydration at 36 wks) whereas this would be charged much more privately (well into the thousands). e) Last but not least, should your baby require nicu care this is top notch at LH at a fraction of the cost of private hospitals. And remember that insurers often only cover a couple of days in intensive care so cost can become an issue very quickly. I had my 3 babies at LH despite having insurance for all of the above reasons. Hth x

Hi ChuckyDucky, Yes, I called City today and they explained to me whats charged and whats not. And that if I told them when I checked in that I wasn't interested in anything not covered by my package then there wouldn't be any extra charges. So far I've covered all of the basics except for medication which i'm not necessarily against paying for, i would just like to be informed first that this is not covered by your package so you will be paying blank extra so that I can at least make a choice. You can never know for certain that you won't need anything extra though. I needed a vacuum assisted birth, there was no question of whether or not I wanted it. And that is nothing compared to an emergency c-section or (heavens forbid) a NICU stay for your baby. Hopefully your delivery will be smooth and straightforward and none of this will be needed, but you need to make sure that IF it happens, you can afford it.

I had my baby at city 2 years ago with no maternity coverage. I had a straight forward delivery with no pain relief. They had a policy that all must stay 2 nights and no this wasn't my first baby but 3rd. On checkout our bill was roughly 25,000dh which was the delivery charge included in this. I'm due to have my 4th in September and so pleased we have maternity cover this time around! All the best with your birth Gosh that's a lot! I had my 3rd at city 7 weeks ago, had a c-section with 3 nights stay and my bill was just under 25k. I think baby's vaccinations are not included in the package, we had BCG and Hepatitis administered while in hospital. Was very grateful to have insurance when I checked out!

I had a natural delivery, no epidural, vacuum assisted birth in American Hospital and the only extra charge (for the vacuum) was about 600Dhs. The total bill was around 12000. I expect City would be about the same. We brought our own diapers, wipes, maternity pads etc. because I knew we'd be charged for those if we used hospital ones. I must say the 25,000 sounds a lot with no pain relief and a natural delivery. (Austan) Mine was that and I had a C section with epidural at City and stayed 3 nights. UmmZarinah best thing to do is buy a package, or go and ask them for a price list. I would also be prepared to pay a lot more than expected - I was covered for 10,000aed by insurance but had to supplement the additional myself. Ensure you have a credit card with a huge limit or the cash to pay for at least 50,000aed extra. Any NICU costs will send the bill way over this. If you are concerned about cost, register with Latifa. TDB, what are the delivery costs at Latifa? Hi There are various packages and it depends if you end up having a normal/instrumental/c-section. The normal delivery package does not include Epidural- that is 2587 AED NICU if required, and that can run into 10,000's Blood transfusion Medication Any supplies I.e. maternity pads, breast pads....... Treatment of complications If you call City they will email you details of the packages with a breakdown of some of the extra costs. Good luck.

I will say same as in every thread about delivery and money. If you worry the bill will go too high go to Iranian hospital. They are good and not overpriced.

The delivery package at City is supposed to include the following: Delivery Fees Labour ward care Hospital stay for 2 days Obstetrician's professional fee consumables used during the delivery pediatrician's consultation hospital diet Rounding fees - Specialist Obstetrician I assume that those are all the major costs involved but I do not expect in any way to walk out of there only having paid the 12,500. I'm just trying to see what other additional costs can be....racked up without you even realizing it. I know any additional labwork or medicatons wouldn't be covered. Not sure about neonatal baby care, etc. I also think there's a time limit on the labour ward care, like after a certain number of hours they begin billing you....I really would like to be as clear as possible on all of this beforehand as this pregnancy was totally unplanned and I DO NOT like being surprised when it comes to money (something that seems inevitable here).
