Hi

So i am going for my first scan at 7 weeks. Its my first pregnancy so no idea what to expect.

Silly questions sorry:

Will it be a scan on my tummy or vaginally since its early?
Can you hear the heartbeat by 7 weeks and will i see the baby>?
Do i need to go with a full bladder or empty for the scan?

Thanks for the answers in advance

Just had 12 weeks scan. GOBSMACKED. So amazing, i can't believe how much you can see and how much has changed since week 6! Not going to get any work done today, just keep going back to watch the video and pictures. Hope your scan went well!

I had my first scan at 4 weeks pregnant, it was a tummy scan and there was absolutely nothing to be seen except the amniotic sac which confirmed the pregnancy. Next time a couple of weeks later there was a tiny dot, now at 35 weeks they show me her hair and fingernails and it's so miraculous when you think back to the first when there was nothing :') never had a scan done vaginally even though i had some issues along the way and thought they would but they didn't. HTH xxx

At this stage you do get a better picture vaginally so don't hope too much for a tummy scan. The internal scan isn't painful or uncomfortable or anything so don't worry. This is my first pregnancy outside of England and already I have had 4 scans and I am only 15 weeks :) It's lovely seeing the baby so many times! In England I was lucky to get 2 scans!!

I also went at 6w1d here in Dubai. I was amazed that they could easily see the baby on a tummy scan (well a 4mm blimp they told me was the baby) and they picked up a strong heart beat. I got a print out of the blimp and the heart rate and still look at it most days rather incredulously. Going for next scan in 2 days and looking forward to hopefully seeing something a bit more baby like. In terms of the bladder i expect they will do a urine test as part of the antenatal check up so you will need to have something to give them. However, i found that even having gone to the bathroom before leaving the house i needed to go again when i was at the doctors 30 mins later, so if you also have the same need to pee pregnancy symptoms i wouldn't "save" it up and make it uncomfortable for yourself. Good luck, its a very weird and wonderful experience!

I went for my first scan at 6 weeks and a day and they had to do it vaginally because it was far too early. They couldn't see/hear a heartbeat at that point because the embryo is just so tiny and your bladder needs to be full full full!. With my first baby however, I got my scan at 7 weeks and 4 days and they did a regular u/s on my tummy and could see everything. (that was in canada). Good luck with your scan and congratulations on your pregnancy! Hi So i am going for my first scan at 7 weeks. Its my first pregnancy so no idea what to expect.
