Flying to BHX from dubai with 20month old 'on lap' with emirates, can i get a child's meal for her even though she doesn't have a seat of her own

I am flying to Birmingham from dubai in a few weeks and my daughter is still classed as an infant so she is 'sitting on my lap' during the flight, meaning she has no seat, but would it still be possible to get a child's meal for her, although she doesn't have her own seat?

not sure what its like on Emirates but on Qatar Airways no meal for lap babies, but I request a "low sodium" or "fruit platter" for myself (the child's meal on Qatar Airways is horrific, nothing I would give a toddler; chips, pastries, chocolate bar, flavoured milk etc!!!) depending on length of flight, get them to bring it early (or late) and then get an extra meal for me (even on full flights they have always had a spare meal they can give me).

Just change your own meal to the child one (2-12 year old not infant meal which will just be mush). they will bring it before the regular meal service and it will have plenty of toddler friendly snacks. they will later bring the regular trolley down the aisle with the normal food and you can ask for one of them as well if you are feeling up to it and possibly a drink!. That's a great idea!

Daza - ditto. That's how I ended up jammed in a window seat with an 18 month old on my lap for 14 hrs. Unusually there were no spare seats. Fourteen hours of my life I will never forget!!!

I did this last summer with my toddler (dubai to toronto, 14 hours)- it was a nightmare. The staff was really great about giving my son extra snacks and extra food, but there was no way I could manage one tray let alone two so I had packed plenty of extra food and snacks for him and myself. Also to my understanding- they only have baby purees, but if your child is off of purees they would just get a regular tray?

Wouldn't know how you would manage with two trays and your little one on your lap. Bring food for her and for yourself that you can just pick at. A sandwich, some carrots and hummus things like that. Are you travelling by yourself?

Thanks for the replies. i have just rang emirates and they said they can't give a meal without a seat, but if there is one spare on the flight they may be able to. But i will travel with plenty of food just incase! x

I always forget to check this before I leave but the staff on board are always happy to give you one if they have one spare. Best bet would be to call ahead and try to preorder it. Even if you can't or they say no, the staff have been great finding fruit and extra bread etc to keep my little one happy. That said, I always travel with plenty of snacks too!
