I do not know of any retired midwifes in Dubai that would attend a birth, we had an unassisted delivery. I have heard that there are some midwifes from other countries that will fly here to assist...but I never explored that option either. Yes we did cut the cord our self, obviously had sterile equipment prepared for that (boiled some scissors and a string to tie off). We just went to the hospital after the baby was born to get checked out, they wanted us to stay there overnight and we did, got the birth note that way. so how long after birth did you wait before you went to the hospital? and everything went fine, would you do it the same way again? I really dont want to give birth at a hospital. who was your doula?

Hi Yojana, home births are not illegal in Dubai...but unfortunately it's illegal for medical professionals to attend home births here. I just had a beautiful home water birth here in Dubai six weeks ago, without medical assistance. Just me, my husband and our doula...it was the best experience ever, but you probably know that since you already had home births in the past! :) It was a difficult decision, but we just felt that for us that was the only way to have the birth we envisioned...I had my two other children in hospitals (one here in City hospital) and I knew how easily a normal hospital birth can turn into a cascade of interventions. It's sad but it seems that one has to fight for a completely natural birth here in Dubai. :( Some hospitals don't even allow doulas here anymore. From what I have heard Dr. Raj from American hospital seems to be the most recommended as a pro-natural doctor, but she does have a long waiting list. Let me know if you need more information and good luck with getting pregnant! ;) Hi Tmac, Since many years I am dreaming about a homebirth and was very disappointed when I found out that it is illegal in Dubai. I am due in June next year. Do you know or anyone else if there are any retired midwifes or any midwifes who would still attend a homebirth here in Dubai? Also which Doula did you have? Did you cut the cord yourself and then call the ambulance or what did you do also in order to get a birth certificate. Thank you very much in advance. Any info is very much appreciated

How do you register the birth of your baby if done at home without assistance? Can you advise me a doula? Thank you

Hi Yojana I didn't think it was possible to give birth at home here, as your birth certificate needs to be issued by a hospital, however, I am guessing that people do it (register at hospital), and then go to hospital afterwards and say it happened too quickly and that they didn't make it in time, and then go through the formalities to get it officiated?? I have had 3 babies here in Dubai - and no problems with going down the natural route at all - no-one has even suggested that I have a C-section - so all 3 have been natural deliveries, with a combination of drug free and not - totally my decision at the time whether I chose to have pain killers.. My last baby I have just had at City (in the last week) and even pulled the baby out myself - under the midwife and OB suggestion - hadn't even thought of doing it myself! So I think it is totally dependent on who your specialist is, and what you want, as to how natural your experience will be. I would just be very clear from the outset (1st consultation) on what you want to happen, they will soon tell you if it is possible for them or not. I hope that helps.

Hi Yojana Unless things have changed in the past couple of years then no, home births are not allowed in the UAE. Your obstetricians attitude to birth is the most crucial one as she/he will be the one calling the shots at the hospital. If you do a search on here you will be able to find recommendations for OBs that are pro natural birth.

Hello ladies Me and my husband are thinking of having another baby and as I gave birth to my last children at home and wondered if anyone knows if that would be possible to do it here in Dubai? And I also wondered how the attitude towards having a natural birth in hospitals are. Looking forward to hear what you have to say. Thank you
