Hi Ladies,

My DD is 9weeks old and i started to give her a dummy at around 3weeks.

I have her in a good routine and from around 4 weeks she has been sleeping through the night, this only problem is it take time to get her to sleep with the dummy as she constantly lets it slip out of her mouth and this wakes her up. Up to now I have been going to bed with her and just putting the dummy back in until she falls asleep. This is quite time consuming, my DH is starting a new job and will be away for a few weeks at a time which will leave me on my own with two girls, one 16 months and the other 9weeks. I just think I will not have the time to go to bed with her...

Have you any tips on how I can get her weaned of the dummy? Is she too young to get her weaned?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks ladies..

I read in a book (either Gina Ford or Tizzie Hall) that you should put her down to sleep, wait until she is just dozing off and then softly pull the dummy out! if she wakes re-insert the dummy and repeat until she falls asleep and stays asleep without it. Personally I gave a dummy to my son and just kept going in to him to put it back in his mouth when it fell out until he reached an age where he could do it himself and then I gave him 6 dummies in his cot to make sure he could always find one. Iwhen I was pregnant I was dead against dummies but the hospital gave him one and we kept using it as he liked it. I am going to let him have it until he is 2 and then we are going to do the 'bin' thing. Good luck, hope you can manage to wean her :)
