Hi all,

I have been giving DS little sips of water when he has his solids (been doing this for the past month) but he only seems to take any sort of sip worth taking if he has it in a cup! (he is 6 months old!) Put in a bottle or the lid on the sippy cup and he wont take it at all when he gets that first little taste. Any suggestions on how to get him to take some (especially for when we are out and about more so than at home).

TIA
xox

I had the same problem but through a bit of trial and error, I found a cup that she loves. She will drink through a straw from a bottle but not a cup (I think she prefers the thicker straws that bottles tend to have). I've bought some pricey cups but in the end found that she loves a simple cup, no handles and it has a spout. They are 24dhs for 3 and come with different characters on them (Minnie, Mickey, etc). You can get them from Babyshop and Waitrose. And they are even cheaper at Babyshop at the moment with the sale! Good Luck!

thx Ladies. He will take from a cup (but yeah messy). He happily takes a BIG sip of my water out of my bottle or glass even if it is sparkling water - he has a very good grip on him so if he gets hold I tend to let him take a little sip otherwise we end up with water over both of us. I might try the ones with the straw see if he will suck it up instead. We are on 4th sippy cup too but no such luck... I am just hoping by summer he is drinking it that is why I really wanted to get him started now, I know i have a few months up my sleeve but March gets hot enough for these little guys. Thx for the replies though ladies. xox

Hi hun, he doesnt need more than few sips of water with his solids at 6 months if he's taking enough BM/formula. My DS was taking few sips at your LO's age, at 9 months he went up to 3 oz & now at 14 months he drinks around 240 mls (8 oz), & sometimes more. Once he's more mobile & start moving around he will start taking more. Just keep offering until he gets used to it.

I know exactly where you are at... Took me ages to get my boy to drink, he use to have about 40 on a really good day and all the other babies were drinking about 180ml water a day!!! I was stressing out and couldn't understand why and still don't! I tried everything including mixing apple/orange juice. Eventually on the 4th sippy cup I tried he started drinking and on day one had 80ml before lunch!! I got the Pigeon Mag Mag Sippy Cup with the straw attachment. (it has 3 stages that's the last). Also try drinking out of an oasis bottle with the suck through valve. or tipping a normal cup into his mouth... messy but they sure to swallow some of it! Hope this helps!
