Just returned from a trip to Europe where we saw a paediatrician as my 2-month baby seemed to have problems digesting. We had tried S26 and then S26 AR on recommendation of the doctor here. The doctor back at home recommended we used hydrolised formula instead and of course, what we could buy there does not seem to exist in the UAE.

Can anyone help with a brand name that produces such formula and where I can find it in Dubai?

Hi Turnip! Thanks anyway. Yes, we actually found some at Life Pharmacy along Al Wasl. Now, am trying to convince our insurance company to shoulder the expenses associated with the purchase of Neocate for my baby. Oh how expensive it is! :(

Hi twinbutterfly I have 13 cans of Neocate that have an expiry date of 02/2012. DS could not tolerate any cow's milk or soy-based formula so the paediatrician advised us to give him Neocate. We brought a big supply back to Dubai as I wasn't sure if we could regularly find Neocate here. Now DS seems to have outgrown the soy intolerance and no longer takes Neocate (although still cow's milk intolerant). And yes, as lemondrops said, it tastes awful, especially for DS who was coming off being EBF. It took him a while to get used to it. Let me know if you are interested. Turnip, would you by any chance still have the 13 cans of Neocate formula?

Thank you Ladies for the further directions! Just a word of warning for those using Aptamil Comfort: Danone seems to have changed the formula, as the can we bought at Life has Hydrolised whey protein concentrate and the cans we bought from Choithram’s (with a later expiry date) have whey protein concentrate (no mention of hydrolised). The old cans say they contain fish and the newer ones do not. Saga has continued with LO taking the old formula well although it did smell of fish but once we opened the newer cans from Choithram’s he started throwing up at most feeds, which is how I realised that the 2 sets of cans have different ingredients. He took it better yesterday so it could have been just the adaptation period to the new formula. If he throws up again, we will definitely go to HA. Turnip, thanks for the offer but I would not like to give him something that tastes that awful. However, there seems to be a user who is moving to Dubai and is looking for Neocate so both kiwispiers and myself already referred her to this thread.

Hi twinbutterfly, I found neocate at MOE last week, at the small pharmacy opposite the food court (Babyshop entrance). It was 200dhs for a small can and they had 3 cans left.

Also just to add, it sounds like your LO has Milk Soy Protein Intolerance (google MSPI there's load of info on the web). He's basically allergic to dairy and potentially soy proteins, hence why he fares so much better on the HA formulas. The allergy does not extend to oils such as fish oil and soy oil, as the offending critters are in the proteins themselves and not the oils. Of course some LO's do better some some types of HA formulas more than others. I have even heard of cases were babies respond differently to the same brand of formula but manufactured in different countries! Only trial and error will tell.

Twin_butterfly, I found neocate in the pharmacy that's located in the Park n Shop strip mall (the name eludes me). I bought one can, and at the time they also had another two cans. Also second what Sant said. Hypoallergenic formulas have partially hydrolised milk proteins. I would try them before going on Neocate, which is a completely hydrolised or elemental formula but I hear is supposed to taste awful.

Thank you Sant! We ended up buying 3 cans of Aptamil Confort at Choithram's as the cans in Life Pharmacy seemed to have a very close expiry date :( I did notice that they contain soy and fish which I did not like at all but I was unable to find Neocate anywhere. I must say that DS has no reacted as well to Aptamil Confort as he did to the formula we bought back at home which worked a treat! Now I wish I had brought lots with me but we had enough luggage to bring back and the formula was very dear: EUR 22 a can! Sadly my DS's paed here in Dubai was unable to give me names of brands for hydrolised despite being a highly reputed doctor and also highly recommended here on EW. I had wondered about the HA formula so great to know - THANKS. So once we finish this lot of Aptamil will give the S26 HA a try and see how he handles it. Just out of curiosity, in which branch of Life did you see Neocate?

I should add, on presription in Doha it is free, vs very expensive back home. Basically the cows milk protein is completely broken down (predigested)

You can usually buy Neocate formula at the American Hospital pharmacy, but I think you need a prescription from one of the hospital's Drs to buy it there. Other times you can buy it at any pharmacy, but typical Dubai, it's often out of stock for months on end!

Neocate is available in Dubai. I was able to buy a can of the formula from a pharmacy without a prescription. I don't know however if it's a hydrolised formula - but I do know it's elemental (not sure if that is the same thing.
