To cut a long story short, we have been TTC for 4 years. Recently had a HSG which confirmed I have a blocked left fallopian tube. DH sperm count is low. I have been to Fakih IVF who have advised to have a Hysteroscopy first to establish if I have polyps then followed by the Polypectomy and then a Laparoscopy to try and tie off the left tube. We can then try our first round of IVF if DH sperm count can improve. The cost for this is 24k but if I have this followed by IVF they said they could reduce it to 18k followed by 30k for IVF. Obviously, we are both very upset and feel like our hopes have been dashed. I dont want to speak to family about this and dont really trust any friends here to keep this confidential so im asking for a little bit of advice. I know you cant put a price tag on having a baby but we will be taking out a loan to finance this. I'm 38 this year! Has anyone ever had a Hysteroscopy followed by any keyhole surgery to help their chances with IVF. TIA

Dorisdaydream, big hugs to you. Just to give you some hope, I had a laparoscopy at Fakih IVF and then a successful IVF after 5 years of infertility, and many failed attempts. Have you looked into going abroad for the surgery and/ or IVF? Even with flight costs sometimes it works out cheaper. I looked at Serum Clinic in Athens, which has great success rates and would have gone with them had I not discovered my insurance covered some of it here. Definitely worth shopping around in Dubai for IVF costs too, as they do vary I believe. Very best of luck xxx

@dorisdaydream my obgyne in Fakih IVF Abu Dhabi is Dr Monika Chawla. We really wanted to do both procedures with them but it costs too much. I might try Dr Wael at Dubai Gynae, thanks you LB79 for mentioning it. Maybe it can be covered by our insurance. I believe miracles do happen.

PS I think IVF is also much cheaper with Dr Wael.. I seem to remember it was going to be AED 18-23k.

I had a laproscopy on my insurance as my doc put some other 'issue' down (like internal pain or something). I only had to pay AED 5k to cover 'doctor's fees' whatever that is. I also had a hysteroscopy which cost AED 5k in total (including general anaesthetic) with Dr Wael at Dubai Gynae and Fertility Clinic a month prior to starting IVF as he wanted to do a 'small scratch' on the inside of the uterus as apparently it helps the embryo stick. I didn't even need to go through with IVF after all because after 3 yrs of trying, the scratch-thing had worked and I got pregnant naturally!

Thank you Zoco and Ceekay23 for your replies. I believe the cost of the laparoscopy is the same wherever you go so if you are planning IVF straight after it would be better to stay with Fakih IVF. Ceekay23, who is your ob/gyne at Fakih, is it Dr Ghina? DH and I have discussed our problems in great detail and after TTC for over 4 years we are trying to come to terms with the fact it may not happen. We just cannot afford the 18k laparoscopy and then 30k IVF and then the emotional rollercoaster afterwards if the IVF fails! I have put my life on 'hold' for the last 4 years thinking that every month will be the month, only to be massively dissappointed. I just pray that miracles can happen!. Wishing you the very best of luck Ceekay23 xx

Do you know of any other hospitals that can do laparoscopy at a lesser cost?

Hi dorisdaydream! I am in the same situation as you are. Both my fallopian tubes are blocked and my ob/gyne in Fakih Ivf said i need to undergo laparoscopy and that ivf is the only way for us to have a baby. This is really sad news for me and my husband. Not to mention the cost of both operations, 18k for laparoscopy and then 30k for ivf. I have been trying to look for other hospitals that can do laparoscopy for a lesser price but i am in doubt on how good they are. I believe fakih ivf is known to have a good reputation in these kinds of operations and i have read that my ob/gyne is already experienced in performing laparoscopy. We prefer to do it with fakih ivf but it is too expensive.

Big hugs to you Dorisdaydream! I feel your sadness just from your words :( We too are in a similar situation (TTC/IVF) though our circumstances are different so I'm afraid I cannot comment or advise on the procedures you mentioned. I can, however, suggest you get in touch with a lovely lady at ramroom2@hotmail.com who has recently set up an informal IVF support group in Dubai. Although we're not meeting again for another few weeks she will add you to the email conversation and you can pose your questions there. I know for a fact there are ladies who have been through very similar experiences to yours and who will be happy to help with plenty of information. My very best to you... stay strong, it's a rough ride but there are plenty of sunny days ahead, not just the ones that feel like the end of the world XOXOX
