Thanks so much for the replies. I called Oman Insurance Company and they told me they dont do any health insurance which covers maternity, very strange. So they must have changed their policies now. Thanks for the hospital info also, it is starting to give me a bit of an idea.

I have [b'>Oman Insurance Company[/b'> and I'm on their Comprehensive Network, which price-wise is the middle one. I'm pretty happy with them. It covers maternity, but the only hospital in this Network choice is Medcare which I'm happy with and have been going there for all my appointments and will be going there for my delivery next month insha'Allah. This insurance has covered everything so far (appointments, tests, we have an ultrasound scan at every appointment to see the baby) but it did not cover the usual Fetal Anomoly Scan at 22 weeks surprisingly, so we paid ourselves approx. 700dhs. We got it through my husbands company so I'm not sure of the cost, but I know it's cheaper than BUPA. If you get their Premium Network which is the most expensive I'm quite sure they cover American Hospital and City hospital as well. [b'>Regarding hospital reputation[/b'>, from what I've heard and read, American Hosp (Dr. Raj) and City Hosp (Dr. Elsa) are the top 2 hospitals with the best gynaes for delivery, and Medcare and Welcare are a close 3rd and 4th. We had BUPA and they were really good. I ended up canceling the policy when I was about 3 months pregnant as my husband changed jobs and we got Daman with better coverage through his work I only used them for the first few appointments so not sure about the whole process with them but it was direct billing with City hospital.

My husband and I are thinking of trying to start a family in around a year, my current medical insurance does not cover maternity and I don't want to look at 'topping it up' because I don't want my employer to know. I am starting to look at insurance now because of the 1 year minimum that the policies have before you are entitled to maternity benefits. So I am just wondering which insurance company offers good maternity cover within the health insurance? I have had a quick look and they don't all seem to cover all hospitals, procedures etc and I have no idea at this stage about which hospitals are good/bad for maternity, what level of cover would be needed etc. I got a quote from BUPA which is obviously very expensive although cover sounds amazing, however I don't need 5 star international cover - UAE cover will be fine but I don't want to find closer to the time that I can only go to a hospital with a bad reputation or whatever. Any advice appreciated, it's a minefield! <em>edited by dibdab on 11/06/2012</em>
