I'm so with you on the stitches hurting more...OUCH. That was one part I wasn't prepared for. But then you have your precious little bundle to look at and all that pain just melts away along with your heart. Awww...

Thank you everybody! I was never really worried about the pain but the party just got to me. Don't know why I got so panicky. You have no idea how much this has helped, reading experiences that weren't so bad -and even if they were, you all lived :)...lol now I want to cry from the support...aww...pregnancy mood swings! *sniff*

lol Kells. To answer the OP, I had a natrual birth, no pain meds with my first, it was fine, sure, it burned a bit but not so bad. Stitches after hurt more then the actual birthing part. Second was a c - section, wish I could have done another natrual. Just keep an open mind, have meds on standby if you feel you need them and go with the flow. You will be fine! :)

Everybody has different pain thresholds. I thought I was a bit of a wimp until I gave birth first time and found that I actually have a high pain tolerance. I have since given birth 4 times completely naturally with no pain relief. Its also a mind over matter game with yourself once you're in labour. If you are positive throughout your pregnancy and have in mind how you'd like to give birth (of course sometimes that's out of your control in emergency situations) and try and stick with that during labour, you'll hopefully be fine. If you have a strong support with you (ie husband, partner, mum etc) they can help you stay focused. However, when it all comes down to it, everyone is different and will cope with it how they can during that amazingly intense time. You'll be fine, every first time pregnant woman feels this way. :) Sending you strength :) ETA take all advice very cautiously and make your own mind up about things. IMO those mothers should not have scared you about PND. If you're positive and calm then labor and motherhood will be easy for you. goodluck edited by juzzrach on 06/04/2011

I think of myself as a bit wimpy but i had no pain relief and was absolutely fine and dandy no stitches no c section nothing i did have a mishap whilst pushing though Lol :) LOL. This was one of my biggest fears. After DS was delivered onto me, my first question to my OBS was, "Did I do one?" hehehehe... lol, and did you!?? haha Well, no. And to be honest...I was quite disapointed I hadn't. LOL

I'm just being honest. Mine is hardly a horror story. You're right, not compared to the ones I was being fed. Calmed down now I think with help from DH. Mild panic. I want the baby, I'll love the baby, and if it's painful, I'll use it for later when they give me trouble ;) Yeesh, some of the things people say...not very nice either, seeing as I was standing right there and getting paler with every word they said! :/ it's infuriating but sadly all too common..with both mine i was fed endless horror stories until in the end i just decided that everybody is obviously different, judging by all the different stories, so there was every chance mine would be ok lol and if it wasn't i'd take every drug they offered me !! And don't worry about the bodily functions - the staff have seen it all before. Your partner has it worse - they can actually SEE whats going on lol

Just get an epidural and you'll be all set. I had one with my first child and I just lay there happily until she came out. I felt nothing.

Is it painful? yes but as soon as you see your baby you are ready to go through the labor pain again. In arabic root of the word for woman ( nesaa) comes from the one who forgets....Plus now an epidural will take care of the pain.

It's not called "Labour" for nothing ;-) hehehehe...trust me, once you are in labour - all you will be focusing on is getting to meet your precious little bundle. And once baby is born - all will be forgotten. There are many forms of pain relief, from hypnotherapy and aromatherapy to Gas and air and the wonderful epidural...read up on it and ask your OBS to explain it all to you. RELAX and enjoy this wonderful time in your life. Oh and...stop listening to others. How on earth people can tell you you will suffer from PND is beyond me. Tell then to get lost.

Mine was pretty bad but quick. I was soaking wet from my own sweat, screaming my head off, and then I threw up all over myself on the last push just as the baby came out. But I was up and about a few minutes later and it is true that the pain is over once the baby is out. Lordy, not sure that's what the OP really wanted to hear. I'm just being honest. Mine is hardly a horror story.

Anyway, just think that millions, if not billions of women, have survived it and have gone on to do it many times so it can't be that bad. And it is only recently that childbirth has become comfortable with epidurals...

No. Loved having my children. Short, easy labours that were sooo exciting because they happened in the middle of the night (one of them did, at least) and it was finally over. No pain medicine needed because the adrenaline kicked in, which was better than any drug they could have given me, not depressed at all - blissfully happy to have a little bundle of joy. But make sure that you have help in place (family member, housekeeper, etc) to ensure you get time alone and with DH.

Don't worry about it. First thing women were made for this, so it should be fairly normal. Secondly, I worried and read as much as possible, and ended up having early C-sections, and never even went into labour.... depression? if you can stay awake to think about it then it might happen....just think ZOMBIE state....and dont worry.

Scaremongering you will be fine, every person is differnet and women like to exagerate what a rough ordeal they had mines worse than yours etc etc, if you are a level headed person and have some support DH? You will be fine dont worry about it too much. Good luck
