I've also had my bubs!. NVD post induction on the 16th at Al Zahra. Fantastic experience. Super quick (considering she is my first) - whole event lasted only 2 hours!! Dr Yamini and all staff were fantastic. We only stayed one night before bringing our precious girl home and so far, so good. Super stoked and proud of my girl.

Hi everyone :) I had my baby!! Liberty was born on the 25th Feb at American Hospital via VBAC - yay!! Dr Mia Branch was amazing and just let me carry on with a trial of labour despite my first born being a C-sec. She was happy as long as myself and the baby were ok. I went in on the 24th Feb at 2pm after 4 false labours!! 2 weeks before the birth I had my show, then lost my plug over a week, then walking became really hard and on the morning of the 24th I had a partial sweep as I was walking around at 4cm dilated for two weeks. The labour lasted until 8am on the 25th when my daughter was born. I had a second degree tear, used gas and air and two shots of pethadine which wore off an hour before the birth. I pushed without the gas and air and wow what an experience, so different from my first :) I pushed for an hour and a half and when she came out she looked tiny but weighed in at 10lbs 2oz (4.523kg) so bigger than my first!! I had a lovely golden hour with my little girl and she latched on almost perfectly straight away - we are still breast feeding two weeks later. After the birth she had jaundice so I stayed in AHD for an extra night. I had SPD in the last weeks of my pregnancy and this made walking after the delivery really hard and painful. The stitches started off ok but now I have some pain from them - mainly a pressure when I've stood a lot. I can manage a quick trip around the supermarket but can't go for a walk yet. My pelvic pain has now eased up and I can put weight on my right leg which was initialy impossible. Last of all my baby girl is perfect and my family now complete :) Good luck to everyone on this thread, lets hear some of your birth stories too x x Congratulations alowicious on the arrival of your little bundle of joy! we had our baby boy too on 9th March...I went through C sec with Dr Elsa, I had made peace with it after getting two different opinions... my baby's head was not engaged until week 39 and the placenta was aging not providing enough nutrients to my little bubs... it seems the head had not even engaged 1/3. I was extremely apprehensive about the C sec but so glad it all went really well. much better than i expected. Im so thankful that i didnt distress my little one by getting induced as post surgery, Dr Elsa said that my pelvis area was too small and the next one would be a direct C sec, even a 2 kilo baby cant pass through. Im not advocating C sec and would have loved to go natural if i could, but after my experience, honestly it was not bad at all... i was very keen to have skin to skin immediately post delivery and let him find his way to the breast... Dr Elsa ensured the drapes were down as soon as she pulled him out and i could see him and as soon as the pediatrician checked his basics (3-4 mins max) he was put on me skin to skin for about 1.5 hr which was amazing! in terms of pain: yes the first 3 days post delivery was quite painful but nothing unbearable as i was on painkillers... stayed at City hospital for five days which was great as it really helped getting all the extra help and information especially related to breast feeding and baby care as a first time mom. Overall a good experience and most importantly "i am a mommy to this wonderful little boy", grateful to god and enjoying every second with him

me too.. playing the waiting game.. enjoying the 'feeling of uncertainity' and dreaming about the baby :) i was a bit worried after my visit to Dr last week, as she said that my placenta has calcified (aging) and the baby has not yet engaged which could possibly mean a C section... i am much better now and just praying that any way is good as long as baby is fine :) all the best to everyone... wishing you and your family a wonderful time with your new born..

We are currently doing the classes at Healthbay, almost finished. Its a four week course and yes all attendees are there as couples including Dads. Covers everything from pregnancy to labour to hospital issues to newborn care. Really informative and I would highly recommend it. Plus, the midwife that runs it is Australian and there are Tim Tams :)

Hiya Ladies, Not been on this for a while as my DD and I have been so poorly, the weather got the better of us this time round. Was wondering if anyone has had a growth scan yet? I never had one with my first as i went back to the UK and i don't think it was even discussed or an option there. Any how, i'm seeing dr ibrahim at city hospital we've booked an appointment for this Sunday. If anyone has had theirs can you let me know what to expect. Im assuming its measurements of the LO just to make sure He/she is growing fine. Hope ur all doing well xx

Hi All I'm looking for some antenatal classes in Abu Dhabi. We are having our baby in Dubai in mid March but don't want to go there each week for classes. Can anyone recommend a place here in Abu Dhabi that do classes. Any help would be appreciated.

hello everyone... third trimester is round the corner for most of us... what are the 'to do' things before the baby is born... please share your thoughts.... for me the biggest point on my to do list is to find a home stay nanny/maid... i am also thinking whether i should keep my baby in a nursery instead after my maternity leave... is anyone also considering a masseuse for post partum massage?

Saggi_1 i think i have that exact same scan coming up withe the same dr...cnt say ive been looking fwd to it atall. Cant say i look fwd to anything when it comes to City which is a shame as i har heard loads if good things about it but my personal experience has been pants. Its also far out n take a whole day up just going there as i have to plan each appointmet around my 15months olds naps n feed times. Im defo miving to al zahra now. Its so much closer to the palm just need to book a veiwing of the place and look into the obgynes. MrsDB, do let me know how it goes with Zahra - i might consider moving too... the only reason i dont wish to is because of Dr Elsa... but its so far from palm and truly bad service every single time Hiya Saagi_1 Sorry its taken me so long to respond, I've been so busy with my in laws in town and now we have another house guest for a month. I've not had a moment to make calls to the hospital. Anyhow, i called Al Zahara and unfortunately the insurance i have does not cover that hospital. (Daman) its really frustrating as it is so close to the palm like you said and would have been ideal. I then called city hospital again only from them to tell me that the next availability Dr Elsa has is sometime in March, which is so close to my due date. I then ask if its okay to see Dr Ibrahim while I wait as Dr Anne is seriously driving me mad and the lady made a huge fuss about the whole thing. I then find out that Dr Ibrahim and Dr Elsa have their own issues. So now I am waiting on a phone call from city to see if 1.Dr Ibrahim is happy to take me or 2. If Dr Elsa can make an exception and see me sooner. I honestly don't think I'm having any luck with this.

For the Dubai ladies, I just wanted to add that I have had my anomology scan at Al Zahra last week. The sonographer explained a little bit as she went along but then after she had taken all the pictures the radiologist came in and explained everything in detail and gave us plenty of opportunities for questions. They were great. They also have one of only 2 of the most advanced machines in Dubai. I would recommend them if you have doubt re other places. No issues getting an appointment either.

Thanks BellaUK, this information has been great. It would be good to understand what issues you came across during your visits so I don't make the same mistakes. My email address is please email me. Dr Tank sounds really good & I think I will try to make an appointment once I know when we are arriving. Currently we are in Doha Qatar where I have seen one doctor & not impressed with the service here at all for a private hospital. As I am having a c-section I think getting to Dubai won't be an issue. Thanks edited by Gingerbird on 04/11/2013

Thanks for the welcome Saggi_1, much appreciated! Great news all is well with scan, but no, that experience does not sound good at City. Poor you. I have an appt with an Obs at Health Bay and apparently they will scan me at 20 weeks there, so maybe I will not have to go to the hospital for that. I have heard Fetal Med Center is very good too (for scans). Have a great week!

Hi Gingerbird, might be able to help a bit for Abu Dhabi. I'm 16 weeks and in AD, seeing Dr Tank at the Swedish Medical Centre. It's a bit of a mission to get an initial appointment with her, but make it anyway and you can ask to be put on cancellations list to be seen sooner, that's how I managed. She is the best in AD and is always raved about, but she does not deliver. I saw 2 other Drs before her here, and one was fine at Healthplus (but still prefer Dr Tank) and the other I was not happy with at all (perhaps cultural differences but she gave me some very inaccurate advice which caused a lot of stress for me early on). Happy to share details over email so you can be aware but don't want to put anything on a public forum. In terms of hospitals Corniche, the public hospital here, has an excellent reputation and has lots of British Drs and nurses. It is not fancy like City, American etc in Dubai as you may not get your own room but the quality of care is unbeatable, especially in AD where the private hospitals are nowhere near the same level as Dubai. I was advised by Dr Tank if I stay in AD don't go anywhere except Corniche, otherwise go to Dubai. Since I have no restrictions on my maternity coverage I plan to go to American or City or Zahra (depending on which I like when I visit myself) to one of the Drs that Dr Tank recommends and be registered at Corniche as a back up in case I don't think I will make it to Dubai when I go into labour. There are some great Prenatal Yoga/Pilates classes at Body Tree and aqua natal classes around the city which are worth going to. You'll be able to meet people and get more opinions on Drs and hospitals etc as well. Good luck :)

Hello Gingerbird and FF8, Welcome to March due dates group and congratulations to you. Gingerbird wishing you all the best with your move, unfortunately i dont know anything in AD so cant help much... FF8 goodluck with your scan .. just wanted to share my city hospital anomaly/morphology scan experience The Good news is: baby is normal and healthy - which is THE most important part. However the experience was very bad with City. the radiology department seemed very unorganized (made us wait for over 40 mins, the receptionist did not have basic information sitting at front desk etc... however we were really looking forward to the first big scan experience and seeing the baby upclose... we were quiet disappointed to see the facilities - very old machines and 3d was very bad quality - we could hardly see the baby as the machine was not advanced enough...the worst is they charged us for the scan and set the appt with a radiologist DR Priya at City hospital and she didnt turn up until the last 5 mins of the scan and everything was done by the nurse. which i think is really bad as why should i pay and book a time with a Dr and she is not even there during the scan. she came in the last 5 mins... spoke briefly - got two phone calls within the 5 mins and left. it was very disappointing as our 12 week scan was with Dr. George at Genesis and were expecting the same level of mature discussion - when we asked Dr Priya for specific details, she said she will send the report to my dr????!!!! She was very impersonal and abrupt! when i asked her for a proper view of the baby, she said she cant provide it as the baby is too big... huh??!! at 20 weeks really? we complained and now will pay extra at genesis/perinatal just to get a decent scan and someone to speak to us properly than a nurse doing a silent scan and a DR entering in the last 5 mins to actually contribute nothing!
