Wonderful news Stovetop! High-fiving you for your determination :D
Have also been away on vacation, but have also thought about you and was hoping to send you a msg when we got back! Seems like you beat me to it ;)
Statistics have proven that most BF'ing mums give up at 2 weeks and 6 weeks as this is when babies tend to go through growth spurts and you literally turn into a human feeding machine! Mentally & physically draining! It looks like you have passed these two "Mummy milestones" :)
Remember the golden rule: Breast milk and production works on demand, so the more you feed or pump, the more the body will produce! Very much the supply & deman theory!
Hi Plumie
Just thought I'll give u an update. Was back home with the in laws and couldn't access EW for some reason. Couldn't meet Cecile or any other lac consultant before leaving for varous reasons. Came back last Saturday, met Paula Miller on Sunday, have started pumping with a Lactina whenever DD lets me, formula is down to 2 times from 5 initially, so I think things are looking good. Have still taking Fenugreek and another Ayurvedic capsule called Lactare which was prescribed by my doctor in India.
Am getting only about 40 ml each pumping session, but am hoping its doing good things to my supply. Lots to learn about pumping and storing breast milk. The learning never stops, does it? :)
Can't thank you and everyone else enough for the support when I needed it most. XX
Probably a good idea to discuss these challenges with a Lactation Consultant or Cecile. I know she charges 350aed per session, if you take the "pay as you go option", but not sure if it is the same rate for home visits?!
What i would suggest you do - if you are planning on calling her soon, express some milk (even if only 30/40/50ml), leave it to stand overnight for at least 24hrs. The milk should "split" and you should get 3 layers, with the top player being a thicker more creamier consistency & the bottom layer more watery. That way if she comes over, she will be able to check your hind & fore milk balance! This will also be a good indicator if DD is getting enough hind milk (the creamy stuff), the milk that fills them up!
Good luck and let us know how you get on xxx
Hi Plumie
When she nurses, she is constantly falling asleep and though I keep tickling her etc., her eyes are shut but she is constantly sucking. So I don't now if she is actually drinking or just pacifying herself. When I take her off the breast after an hour or more of nursing (when I'm sore and dying) she is eating just about anything and everything within her tiny reach including hands, fingers, mittens and the blanket she is swaddled in. Once I give her formula she seems satisfied and plays by herself till she falls asleep. Am still having to give her formula (60ml per serving) atleast 3-4 times a day.
Sometimes when I put her to the breast after formula, mostly to get her to fall asleep... she nurses till she leaves the breast by herself.
My diet is pretty much monitored by my MIL... vegetarian and bland... lol. Mostly soups, milk with durum wheat, light vegetable curries with chapattis etc. I've started snacking on almonds too.
Pumping is not going anywhere... because I seem to be nursing all the time so hardly have the time or enbergy to pump. By the time she's snacked on me and moved on to a nap after her formula feed, I'm ready to just crash :(
Planning to call cecile tomorrow. Do you per chance know how much she charges for a home visit?
Whoohoo for the dripping :) That's progress already, baby steps!
What happens when you take her off the breast? Does she cry? Does she come off by herself or do you take her off?
How is your diet?
Sorry for all the questions, but I've been there not too long ago and it is so wonderful to see your determination and I really hope things work out for you!
Hi Plumie, started the tabs yesterday... this morning I stood up to pick up DD and my breasts were sripping down to the floor ...so don't think milk supply is a problem... but for some reason she still seems hungry after spending an hour or over on the breast and is satisfied only after formula. Going to have a word with her pead next weekend, will get a better idea with regard to her blood sugar levels etc.
Hey Stovetop!
I have the "now" brand which is 500mg per tablet! I had my c-section on the Sunday, took 3x2 tablets daily and by Wednesday morning my breasts where dripping :D I only continued with the Fenugreek for 2 weeks as my breasts where so engorged, I could feed a nation! Along with the Fenugreek, in was expressing first thing in the morning and last thing at night!
Fingers crossed for you & I hope that things will take a good turn for you soon xxx
I got the Fenugreek tablets today (Solgar Brand). The suggested dosage is 1 to 3 capsules at meal times. Just wanted to know how many you used and how long it took to show an effect on your milk supply. Each capsule contains 150 mg of Fenugreek Extract and 370mg of Raw Fenugreek Powder.
