What about Old Town? I have a friend who lives there and seems like a nice area with lots around and has the Dubai Mall metro station (although a bit a of a trek perhaps). Not sure about whether there are clubs and groups there. I agree with the other posters, AR is great, I love it but you need a car. Uptown Motor City has more houses and apartments now as well as quite a few shops as well as medicentre (has a free mum and baby clinic). There are nurseries and various clubs and groups too. You may be able to get out and about within the area without a car (but maybe harder to when it's hot) but obviously a trek in a taxi if you wanted to go to Jumeriah or Marina for example so you may feel a little isolated. I have friends with babies in Jumeriah (Safa park area) and there are lots of mums and babies around as well as shops, baby/toddler groups/clubs, nurseries and medical centres (health bay poly clinic is good). I don't know any specific ones apart from Top Tots there which is near Safa Park. I have a friend who works in JLT and has a nightmare getting taxis. Not sure if this is just at rush hour though. Although there is the metro though so maybe taxi access is less important there. When we moved from Marina to AR, swapping DU was really easy, they just transferred our account and we took our phone number with us, it couldn't have been easier - I was pleasantly surprised. DEWA wasn't too painful either, it seems to get easier each time! Just as an aside, some landlords try and get tenants out (and succeed) when tenants actually have the right (by law) to stay. I'm sure you've checked it out but if not and you wanted to stay where you were then it might be worth seeking advice on this. I know this wasn't the point of your thread but I've seen lots of cases where landlords unlawfully force tenants out. <em>edited by waterbaby on 13/12/2011</em>

JLT is my choice. It is very nice now and not as busy as the Marina plus you can go to the Marina using the metro bridge any time you want... We considered villas but the convenience to have the metro if you don't want to drive is priceless with a baby, in my opinion. Jlt is a great place for non drives for sure. You can take him/her for a nice walk around the lakes and over to the marine via the metro bridge. As someone said AR is very family friendly - however i wont go there as wont drive in Dubai.

I can't help with those specific areas, but why don't you spend a couple of days now having a good look around there? Best time of year to go and wander around with your husband to see what the areas 'feel' like and how safe it is for pedestrian access etc. Have a good look at the walking distance facilities. We moved house the day I delivered baby number three. You'll find it easy. ;)

I can't comment on the other areas as I'm near where you are but I'd like to advise that wherever you end up just consider that if you don't drive you will need to have good access to taxi service as well. I have friends living in both AR and The Villa and they all complain about getting taxi's. You may need their service for doctor's appointments for both you and baby in the months after baby's arrival.

Hi everyone, we have just found out that we are unable to renew our apartment contract when it runs out in February, so we need to move when I am 8 months pregnant. Not so worried about the moving itself, as we used a great company last time and it was fairly stress free (not looking forward to swapping the Dewa, Du etc though - but that's a general moan, rather than pregnancy!) My query is really in terms of areas. We are currently in the Marina, which is useful as I don't drive and will be able to head out with pram when the weather allows it (or jump on the metro with pram when it isn't!) But we're considering heading to Umm Suqeim or Jumeirah, as I quite like the idea of having a family "home", rather than apartment (this is our first baby). I'd like to join baby clubs / groups to make some friends with babies - and I wondered how easy that would be in that area? Is there lots going on that I could walk to - or is it more spread out and requires a car? (ideally we'd be near Mercato/Village Mall). If anyone has any advice on areas that are good for families (with a non-driving mother!) would be much appreciated. I do drive in the UK, but am very nervous about driving in Dubai and don't to be honest think I'd be safe on the roads as I tend to panic. Thank you!
