My friend has a 3 month old son and she is finding it tough and feels very isolated. She was asking about mum and babe groups who meet regularly so that she can get herself out there and reach out to other new mums. Can you advise?

Just like everyone said, we all have been there and really understand how isolated the initial days can be...One thing that helped me was to realize that most mums I saw around were going through the same feelings and sometimes I've just got to make the first move and say hello to another mom with a stroller when you take your little one for a walk or around play areas...and before she knows she'll make some new friends. Her baby is a little small and its quite hot outside but if she does take him/her for early morning walks to a park or around the building/community she could give it a try. Also as already suggested going for Expat mums and babes would surely cheer her up. Maybe you should ask her to join EW and start posting, sometimes thats all you need..the lovely ladies here could never let her feel isolated :)

Thanks so much. I have just been around to her with a coffee in each hand and we had a long chat. She def. needs mums with kids the same age as her lo. Mine are pre teens and I found myself wanting to advise rather than empathize because I'm out of touch! I will pass this info. on to her. Gina, whats her email address? I have a 12 week old baby so almost the same age :-)

i know how she feels as its hard at that age. Its more for the mother to keep sain and meet new people. Mums are everywhere here. Tell her not to stress and definately just keep positive.

Hi Gina, do tell your friend to come along tomorrow (Monday 13th) to Mall of the Emirates, Costa Coffee at 10.00am until 12.00pm. Dee will be running this group, a lovely mum with a little girl just a few months old. Its a lively group of mums with babies of all ages and she is bound to meet someone at the same stage of motherhood. She can arrive whenever she wants too, and will receive a warm welcome. Its a long hot summer ahead and the only way through it is to meet up with some mates!! We also have a group on a Thursday in Mirdif City Centre Caffe Nero, she can always e-mail us if she needs more info. edited by admin on 12/06/2011
