If it is any help our son had 37 trips to theatre in his first 2 years and his surgeons all impresed upon us how vital a good anesthetist is-the fact that your surgeon is chosing the hospital on this basis would give me added confidence-all the best.
Thanks Emily 1984! My gut instinct thinks the doctor is fine. It will be SO much easier to have to have the procedure done here. He wants to do it at American Hospital. He likes the anesthetist there.

Hi tobiland
I know how you feel. My dd had surgery at 6 months old at Al Wasl Hospital. I was also wondering whether to go back home to get it done but im glad we decided to have it done here. She was in her normal surroundings before she went in, me and my dh were with her all the way and then when she was discharged she was back into her normal surroundings and into her normal routine without much disruption.
We also did research on the surgeon but didnt find much about him. I think it goes on gut instinct and if you are happy with him and what he says then you are over your first hurdle. Which hospital will your ds have the operation in? We were more than happy iwth Al Wasl. The only issue i had was that dh couldnt stay over as it was a government hospital but he left at 10pm and came back at 7am so not too bad.
I hope this has helped and hope your sons surgery goes well. My dd has to have another op in a year and im already dreading it.
My son needs a minor surgery procedure done and I am wondering if it is something I get done here in Dubai or back in Australia. He has a lipoma (very mobile lump on his back) it is not bothering him but seems to be growing and definitely needs removing. I have been recommended Dr Jaouni the only Pediatric Surgeon here in Dubai and though he seems a lovely man with a kind bedside manner I know nothing about him.
Has anyone had any experiences with him? Should I have the procedure done in Dubai or would you recommend waiting to do it once we are back in Australia?
Please advise! It is really doing my head in.
Thanks in anticipation,
Worried Mum
