Nan HA problems

DD is 7 weeks and on NAN HA - no real problems until the last 2 nights where she has had really awful gas, resulting in loud, presumably painful farting which makes her scream her head off :(( Poos have always been terrible on the NAN, dark green and stinky but as DD seemed happy enough didn't think to change her. We are now thinking of trying her on SMA Gold System First Infant Milk - it's also available in the UK which helps as DD and I will be back there this summer. Any feedback from anyone who's experienced similar on the NAN? Am concerned that changing will make things worse, however she's tried the ready made SMA cartons a few times and seemed OK....

TIA

Thanks Ladies. Will try the SMA to start with for a bit to see how she does. She has been really poorly this week coughing alot and nappis still not back to normal yet. Paed didn't recommend antibiotics to clear up her cough/ cold and he thought she had a tummy bug. All new to me so sometimes feel a bit useless. I'm not sure if it's teething as DD has her hand constantly in her mouth dribbles like mad, bad nappies and a temperature. Hoping she gets back to normal soon.

The SMA will be regular formula not hypoallergenic so you'll notice a difference quite quickly. My 2 could only drink normal Nan. With my son I went through every formula possible until he finally settled! It was a nightmare! My friend who has twins has both her babies on different formulas because the same one didn't suit them both! I wrongly assumed that if babies are being breast fed then the hypoallergenic formula is better for them so I was shocked too when my doc said no actually it's not it can cause them to develop sensitivities if they don't have any already. He also said to stay away from, Soya, lactose free and goat formula unless medically it's what a baby needs.

Interesting starsouthern, I didn't know that. It was a friend who recommended the NAN HA and I hadn't done much research as I had expected to be bf. It makes sense to not have DD on HA as neither DH and I have any allergies so no reason to think she would need it. We have an appt a week today with the paed so will discuss then but for now I've switched her to SMA (as of Sunday afternoon) and - fingers x'd - things seem much better. DD is still suffering with wind bless her but the farting has subsided and hopefully the poos will be better. Think she is a tiny bit constipated at the moment but DH was blessed with a poo yesterday and said it was more solid (TMI!) than previously. Am also using Infacol and that seems to help. Thanks everyone for the feedback, much appreciated.

I had the same with DS who has been breastfed. He was incredibly gassy and his nappies terrible. Have put him on hipp organic and he's heaps better.

Have you tried normal Nan? Are your babies allergic to normal formula that you have them on HA? NanHA is a hypoallergenic formula and my doc always said that to not give it unless kids have allergies that have been verified by blood test, otherwise it can cause more problems.

Rose i switched it out over only a couple of days. Like two feeds day one, three feeds day two ect. I have found SMA great. It took a few weeks to get her poos back to normal though. Now they are more yellow then green and little to no gas which is great. I find she likes it more too. I would change after she is all better. I thought it was a bug too at the start thats why i took her to the dr's and got her poo checked, but all came back normal so it must have been a bad reaction to the formula. Im glad i switched it.

My little girl is on NanHa also I breast fed up until 3 months then had to introduce formula as I was back at work. This week she has lots of dirty nappies and vomiting. Doctor has said it is a tummy bug. Have found she is very gassy and her nappies in general are dark green and very runny. Her doctor said this is normal for the formula. She is now just turning 4 months. Leshell and Reidly how are you finding the SMA Gold? Is it better and if so did you slowly introduce this to the feeds or just swap straight onto it?

reidly i had EXACTLY the same thing with DD. I even took her to the Dr's who sent her poos away for analysis and everything came back normal as i was worried she had an infection in her gut or something. Generally happy however the poos and the gas were awful! I also was worried about the switch but did so about 3 weeks ago DD was 3.5months and also went to SMA gold infant 1. It was great, took a while but her poos are more yellow now and she has no more gas or discomfort. Honestly so glad i did that!!

Gosh Reidly...a lightbulb has just come on and I feel terrible! My DD was breastfed but I had to supplement a bit with formula and also used Nan HA. She too used to cry when she farted and we eventually used a little Infacol which helped a lot. She outgrew the discomfort and has continued on the Nan up until now...we are busy weaning her onto fresh cow's milk. In hindsight I should have maybe tried a different formula! I do know of someone who switched her DD onto SMA and loves it. It's all trial and error I guess. Chat to your Paed and maybe give it a go. You can always switch back...
