Natural Births?

Hi All
I'm expecting our first baby in March and starting to think about the birth a lot. I wanted to know how many mums out there experienced a natural birth in Dubai? I'm keen for a natural birth but it seems like every single person I know in Dubai ends up having a c section on dr's orders. I'd like to do a hypno birthing or calm birth course but my DH thinks it will be a waste of time as he is convinced we will have to have a c section given everyone else seems to. We hear lots of rumours about the hospitals pushing people into it because they get more money from insurance companies etc etc.
So was wondering how many people out there have had natural birth experiences in Dubai?
Many thanks!

We did HypnoBabies through home study, but we have heard amazing feedback from friends about Jasmine Collins's HypnoBirthing instruction. We are also using Jasmine for the BabyCalm classes now that little one is here. She is a really great resource no matter what.

Sorry I have just read your reply mrsG1. Dr Yuliiya is now at the Femiclinic in healthcare city sorry I don't have the number handy but they have a facebook page and a website. She has a partner who she works with who is very nice and I was impressed with her whilst Dr Yuliya was away over Xmas. Yes you can still deliver at Medcare, Al Garoud and now City as well. I am off to City this time but I would have happily returned to Medcare.

There are some great hypnobirthing instructors in Dubai, but you'll have to start practicing soon if you're due in March. Good luck and best wishes for a healthy and safe birth! Hi - thanks for the feedback. wondering which hypnobirthing instructor you used in Dubai? I've been looking at Jasmine Collins, she seems to be the main one, wondering your feedback if you used her? Many thanks!

I know around 30 people in Dubai that have had babies in the last 12 months. 2 of them had to have c sections when wanting a natural delivery, about 8 of them just lie to everyone and say they wanted natural but HAD to have c section (too posh to push but ashamed to admit is) and the rest all had natural or drug assisted births. I had a natural birth although after 48 hours of actual labour, I was warned it may end up in a c section as my daughter didnt want to come out and it was getting dangerous. Even then, the docs gave me a deadline and thankfully did everything they could to get her out naturally

Mich25- i also delivered with Dr Yuliya- i was a high risk pregancy with various different things throughout my pregnancy but i gave birth natural- well forcep delivery in the end as baby was in distress and no time for c-section- but she was amazing and as you said no talk of c-section. even though my delivery was traumatic when i decide to go for number 2 she will monitor closely but sees no problem in having a normal delivery. btw- i hear she has moved clinics- is she still delivery at medcare?

Hi, I had my first DD naturally at home in the UK and when DD2 came along there was no mention of a CS by my Dr, Dr Yuliya. She just assumed that I would want another natural birth and that's the way it went. I am due again in 10 days and we have the same plan. At Medcare, the nurses insisted on shaving me when I was first admitted in case I needed a CSec and the nurses in the delivery room kept saying oh its a big baby you will need a section. I just replied asking why I would want to have major surgery when I could be up on my feet again in an hour after delivering if all went well. Dr Yuliya was brilliant and I will trust her again this time. If I need a section she will make the call. If you have the right Dr for you they will work with you to have the birth that you want as long as there are no health issues for you or your LO. Good Luck!

I am a first time mom and I gave birth to our daughter at Al Zahra Hospital in Dubai this November using hypnobirthing. The midwives at Al Zahra were 100% supportive and followed our birth plan to the letter. They never even mentioned an epidural or a c-section and I never felt the need for any drugs or interventions. I was only in active labor for 4 hours using my hypnobirthing techniques. The midwife later told me I arrived at the hospital at 9cm dilated, but they couldn't tell from my demeanor because I was totally relaxed. I definitely recommend both hypnobirthing and Al Zahra for any mothers looking to have a calm, fearless, natural birthing experience. There are some great hypnobirthing instructors in Dubai, but you'll have to start practicing soon if you're due in March. Good luck and best wishes for a healthy and safe birth!

Thanks all. My Dr is Dr Farnaz at Family First and she does seem very pro natural, delivery at MedCare. However I have three friends that have used her and all have ended up with c sections. Obviously in the heat of the moment if I'm told that the baby is in danger and c section is required I'm not going to question it but it is nice to hear that a natural birth is possible here!

the government hospitals are very pro-natural birth, if you are in Dubai, Latifa Hospital is the maternity hospital here.

Hi! I have had three NVDs and inshallah my fourth will be the same. With two, I had an epidural and with one, I did not have time for an epidural! All of my children were born in Dubai. It seems like everyone and their mother gives birth by c-section here. Don't buy into it for the usual reasons (big baby, convenience, etc.) and seek a second opinion if you are told that your baby is too big to be delivered naturally. Talk to your doctor to find out what their opinion is on elective c-sections. A pro-natural doctor wouldn't agree to book you in for a c-section just on request. You can definitely have a natural birth in Dubai and make sure your husband supports you on that.

I had a natural birth in Dubai and it was perfectly fine. I did make it very clear to my Dr that I did NOT want a C-section unless it was absolutely necessary. He was great, very understanding and got me through everything with ease. I only had 2 shots of pethidine throughout which was great as after the birth it didn't take long at all before I was feeling good again. I do have a high pain threshold though. I would recommend natural to everyone who can do it naturally. It's amazing!
