I can't help on the agencies, I'm afraid, because I would never consider that as an option for my children. Try some different nurseries... even if it's just to tide you over until you get the place you're hoping for. The nursery my DD goes to only takes from 18 months, but there are lots of others that appear on here regularly - Little Wonders/ Stars? Blossom? Er... lots! Good luck hun. Follow your gut feel and don't settle for anything that you're not entirely happy with - your child is more important than any job.

Thanks for your reply Hello Kitty. Do you know of any agencies that are good? I have put my LO's name down at Bright Beginnings but was told they only take 6 babies in their baby class and there are 30 names on the list!!!! It looks great there but I was told it would probably be Sept at the earliest. Do you know of any other nurseries that take babies (I haven't managed to find any)? I don't have a choice about when I go back to work. I am a teacher and I only get 45 days maternity (which includes weekends!!). I was lucky to get the Xmas hols too to bump it up by a couple of weeks.

hiring someone on "her own visa" is illegal and she'll know that (tick small white lie right from the start). Using an agency is the only way to go if you want to do things by the books but don't want to sponsor directly. I would also suggest you look into nurseries for your LO... you sound (rightly so, imo) concerned about a stranger looking after your LO at home. "Nannies" don't come with any childcare qualifications and very few have any first aid... so whilst nurseries often aren't that hotter on the qualification side, at least most have a trained nurse on site and help in the form of more clued-up staff. I can't help feeling that if you don't have a cleaner - and so aren't used to the system - then you won't be comfortable with a "nanny". Also, is there no way you could stay at home for a bit longer? Obviously, everyone's situation is different, but if you can, it's fantastic.
