Initially started with a local clinic but then moved onto City as I wanted something more permanent. I was happy to stay with City/Dr Aziz but my insurance company will no longer cover City so I am back to square one and looking for a 3rd gynae...

Please tell me Medcare isn't that bad as it is the only option i have left, also who shall I book with??

TIA

S

I delivered with Dr.Shiva 3 years ago and again 3 days ago, I love her and wouldn't have anyone else. The nurses are also mainly very good, the odd grumpy one. The only down side to Medcare is the finance dept, however I have to say they were better this time than 3 years ago. Dr.Shiva is very pro-natural delivery, I mean pro vaginal delivery, she will more than happily encourage pain relief if thats what you want and will also respect your wishes if you don't. Make the first appt of the day, 9am, that way you can guarantee being seen by 9:20am and guarantee a parting space. All the best!

I wouldnt recommend dr Wafa myself. I saw her for a few months on recommendation of one of my good friends who was very happy with her but my own personal experience was completely different. She is NOT informative during the appointments, she didnt share lab results unless I stalked her to death. She tried forcing me into a c-section right before she went on a holiday telling me that something was wrong with my baby and all IVF babies are weak?? Hello, I called my fertility dr straight away and he said that he never heard such a thing in his whole career. I almost fell for it coz she kept scaring me but than went for a second opinion at American Hospital with dr Georges. He told me my baby was fine, had no issues what so ever and I would be able to deliver naturally. I had a very amazing natural birth at AH on the day my C-section was planned at medcare and extremely happy I had the courage to step away after that much pressure and that late in my pregnancy. Most of the people I know that delivered with dr Wafa have been C-sections. If you are okay with a C-section than she is your doctor because she does have a very good technique and my friends's scars are extremely small and healed well.

Had my DS at Medcare. You can have a good or bad experience anywhere. Dr. Wafa was who we used but the delivery was done by the attending who was fine. Dr. Wafa is very experienced and has a soft spoken quiet nature, her nurse at the appointments was lovely. Most of the after-care nurses were good. Agree with the morning appointments also best time to get a parking spot. Best wishes to you! edited by Flossie on 29/04/2011

Thank you so miuch for your comprehensive responses ecossedl and tanyaR it is really appreciated. I will call later on this week and probably ask for Dr Shiva, I do remember dealing with her along time ago for something unrelated and she was ok. I also checked the website, didn't realise you can check Dr's profile's like that!

I gave birth to my DD at Medcare last year and it was fine. The doctors were great. My obgyn is Dr. Shiva, but the on call doctors were very nice too. I found the labor & delivery nurses very nice. Very impressed with the whole labor & delivery dept. The only issue I had was the after-care. The pediatrician was great (and I don't even like the pediatric dept at Medcare) but the after-care nurses were hit or miss. Some of them were great - very helpful and very pleasant, but some of them were quite grumpy and not very supportive - not something you want to put up with when you've just given birth. A lot of people complain that they have to wait when it's their regular appointment because they're so busy. That is true if you get an appointment later in the day, so I try to get early appointments. However, I don't find it much more of a wait than I was used to in the US doctor's offices. However, my DH is not very patient so he doesn't appreciate the wait when he comes with me. As for who to recommend - I definitely recommend Dr. Shiva - she's very caring and thorough. I'm using her for this pregnancy also. But I would also recommend Dr. Najlaa Khadum. I'm not sure how much office appts she does - but anytime I've had to go into the ER for any problems, she's always been the on-call obgyn and I've found her to be great everytime. There's loads of other reviews (good & bad) on Medcare if you do a search. hth

Everyone is so, so different, and has completely different expectations of what is the right level of care. What is perfect for one person, may be another persons nightmare. So basing your decision on opinions/experiences of people on a forum where you don't know the people or their backgrounds can be a little dangerous. That said, are you pregnant or just after standard woman's services? Sorry not 100% given you have said you are looking for a 'permanent solution' and after a gynae, so not sure if this relates to being pregnant. So this might not be relevant if you are looking for something else, but I gave birth at Medcare (15 months ago now) and my experience with Medcare was absolutely fine - but to give you some context (what I was looking for) was basically someone to 'catch my baby'. As far as I was concerned I was doing all the hard work, so as long as I was confident that if any issues arose that they would be able to deal with them, I was okay. I wasnt at all expecting an overtly friendly bedside manner, because I was looking for a specialist (not a friend). But to be fair, my Dr (Shiva) was very friendly (although very busy during consult time and a bit rushed), and followed my instructions of what I wanted. I personally know 4 other friends who have had her, and I know a couple more friends who have been at medcare but under different Drs. Everyone has found Medcare to be absolutely fine, a couple of my friends 'love' Dr Shiva, and a couple of the others were like me, happy she gave professional care, and very comfortable that she knew what she was doing, and that was all we needed. For my next child - should I be so lucky :), I will be going back to Medcare, and Dr Shiva.. I hope that helps .. but, I would suggest going and having a visit of the facility. Look at the profiles of the Dr's there, and see what you think you need, and then have a consult - when you do this, outline any concerns you have and what your expectations are from the outset, so they know and work with this. Good luck!
