Personally, from a reliability point of view I would go with the Medela. I don't know about the Medela model that you quote as mine was just the Medela single electric pump. It was reliable although a bit noisy (sounds like a cow mooing and everyone can hear it!) but easy to use and didn't leak. It did the job and seemed to be able to extract a lot of milk quickly and wasn't painful, the variable speed option helped. it was also easier to put together than the Philips Avent one which seemed overly complicated. I had originally bought a Philips Avent one from the babyshop which did not work when I got it home. I exchanged it but when I came to use it a few weeks later, it did not work. Babyshop would not exchange it (thanks to the great consumer rights laws in the UAE and general bad service!) so that was AED 500 down the drain. I now won't buy another Philips electrical product. Of course, others may have better luck than me with theirs. My DS was in NICU at the time and I needed to express and save the milk, yet I found myself having to go and shop for yet another pump when I had neither the time nor the energy. I bought the Medela one as I did some research and it got mostly good reviews and all the hospitals seem to use Medela as well. I found though that you don't necessarily need all the accessories that go with the 'package deals'. So I just bought the pump without the carry bag etc. This time round, if I need to buy another pump (and I hope not) I will look at buying it in England as they seem cheaper. edited by waterbaby on 18/05/2011

I really did not think about the supply issue at all - sometimes I would pump 15ml within 10 minutes, other times it would be 50ml within 10 minutes. I really trusted my body as much as possible and I am still amazed how clever our bodies are :)) You can also adjust the pump, so it can pump with different intensity. I think the level of stress affects pumped amount more than anything else.

Awesome... JoannaS. thanks a ton for this. read a few reviews on the fact that the amount pumped out wasnt as much as it could be (guessing that couldve been just been supply issues for a few ppl to begin with). did u ever have that problem, if u dont mind my asking? oooo and thanks for the babyshop tip. will check it out. saw it online for waaaay cheaper. even with shop n ship costs its like 2/3 the price. so might go that route after comparing with bshop edited by susandiaz on 14/05/2011

Hi Susandiaz, I used Medela Freestyle and love it. You have the option to pump single or double (from both breasts at the same time). It looks hideous, but it works great. You can pump hands-free - there is a special device so you can hook the things on your bra. I personally did not like it though as leaked sometimes). When was pumping double I used to hook one 'device' and held the other one. If it makes sense ;) I work full time and occasionally travel with work too. I used my pump during my travel and pumped at work (sadly, in the loo). It is compact and I think quite quiet. The Freestyle comes with a nice bag so my colleagues (mostly middle age men) did not stare at me when was going to pump twice a day ;) I have never had any other pump, but I swear by Freestyle. Maybe a relative can buy it as a pressie for you? My MIL bought mine in the UK (it is much cheaper!) and it was the best present ever! Oh, I have seen recently Freestyle in the Babyshop on Sale (-dhs500 off of regular price). good luck with pumping ;)

Ladies... any advice for me on which one to spring for? Was looking to get a dual electric. Saw these 2 and they seem to be similarly priced (although they do come packaged with a whole lot of non essential extras to justify the higher price tag!). They said at the store that the Medela Freestyle was the Swing with a dual pump and can be used hands free. 1. Has anyone used either and would you recommend it? 2. Whats the difference between getting a double and 2 singles (sorry if that sounds silly - but as i said there is a good difference - 500-700 AED - between 2 singles and a double because of all the extras - like ice packs and carry bags and the like, which i really don't want...). Would appreciate your thoughts.
