Congratulations Linalou! What you are feeling is totally normal. I'm generally rational, capable and fairly confident but as soon as I'm pregnant, woooooooossssh! That all goes out the window and I'm anxious, wracked with doubt about everything and feel like I'm constantly teetering on the edge of disaster. It's the hormones. You will be absolutely fine. With your insurance, if normal pregnancy is covered at least you know exactly how much you need to budget for. It's great that insurance will kick in if there are any complications - that is when things can really get expensive.

Good morning everyone... I'm Yasmin,I have one of friend worried about her termination her pregnancy past one month.. She's worried about her situation she's move to another job as a babysitter so she ask me if she's going to a new medical examination the result showing she's drinking medic for abortion?... Please someone advise to her.... Tnx Yasmin.. The way they determine whether or not you are pregnant is by HCG levels. A home pregnancy kit at any pharmacy will tell her whether there is still HCG in her system. If the pregnancy ended a month ago, and her medical won't be for another month, then she is probably fine. But I would buy the home pregnancy test to check for sure. edited by aadams on 28/09/2013

It's perfectly normal to feel abit shocked and overwhelmed-I was the same. I didn't have insurance either, but somehow you find a way. Being pregnant is a diff experience for each of us, some are ill and some never get sick! So try to just take each day as it comes. I fell pregnant and now my baby is here, it's the best thing that happened to me. So many women can't have children and at least you are lucky enough to. It will get easier and once you feel your baby move it will feel real. Nothing beats a smile and cuddle from my little one-its the best feeling in the world. Don't be scared hun, you'll be ok. Life will work out xx

lina. congratulations! it is perfectly normal to feel a bit overwhelmed by being pregnant, happens to the best of us. I've had a high risk one, been very poorly, and it's been nothing short of a roller coaster. at 35 weeks i'm still struggling to believe that i am going to be a parent and there is a baby in my tummy! my work doesn't cover maternity either - the pre natal package at city hospital is around 5k and this covers lots of appts, as others have said, you can also start to save for the birth now. IF you have any issues with a premature baby (as we are going to) then this is where your costs mount up. believe me, i know how stressful this is, but it is very unlikey to happen to you. have a back up plan but don't worry yourself to death over it. good luck!

If didn't want to be pregnant, you should have taken some precautions. Honestly, it's not the 19th century. Mwashington, what's with all the nastiness? Ever since you started posting nothing nice of helpful has come out of your "pen". How about you chill a bit and reconsider? OP no need to panic, planned or not, try to enjoy it and don't put your life on hold or go overboard, being pregnant is not some kind of illness :-) Unless your Dr has identified some risk factors, I'm surprised you were advised not to travel, perhaps you could ask them to explain why? Also call the insurance company and clarify your coverage, doesn't make sense that they would not cover a normal pregnancy. Best of luck! I'm not trying to be nasty! The woman is totally uniformed and in a full out panic - that is not a good start to parenthood! edited by mwashington on 05/09/2013 Totally agree with Big blue, everything u have to say is nasty. Mwashington...are you a parent out of curiosity? It's only natural for anyone to be a frightened if they are put into a situation they are not prepared for especially if they do not have support. Pregnancy is a big thing, its not a matter of "oh I'm not ready for it lets put it off till next time"

Linalou, congrats and try to take some deep breaths and calm down. Despite having fertility treatment, I was panic struck when I finally got pregnant. I spoke to a doctor who said this was very normal. I had gone from being desperate o have kids to being completely panic struck. I think many people feel like this and the doctor verified this. Re maternity package, as others have said there are cheap ish ways of delivering. The key thing is that you have cover if any emergency which you Said you have as this is where costs can escalate. ( we also, spoke to DH company and said that as delivery in UK would be free, would they assist in costs. They did, although this was 12 years ago and I know companies are much tighter with money). I suggest you join a pregnancy support group as soon as possible. This will be invaluable. Re flying, as far as I'm aware there is no risk in first trimester but as people can and do miscarry and generally look for something to blame then this is probably why you have been advised against it. Same reason, people are advised not to suddenly start a new form of exercise. Not because it is necessarily as risk but more so they don't blame themselves if something goes wrong. Good luck d I'm sure in a day or two you'll feel much more confident.

First of all, BREATHE! It's okay to be scared, but don't let it control you. You're going to have a baby, bring a new human into the world, it's AMAZING! Worrying about things entirely out of your control (something happening to your husband etc.) is understandable but a complete waste of your energy. If he is a responsible man who does not drive at 250km/hr down SZR or has a nasty substance abuse habit (I hope not...) then chances are he'll be just fine :) We didn't have insurance either for the prenatal care (birth was covered, check if that is the case with yours, they can be a bit vague) and bought a package at the American Hospital which was around 6000Dhs. Not cheap but it covered absolutely everything, all the tests, ultrasounds, etc. There are hospitals with cheaper packages too. Flying in the first trimester is *fine*, I don't know why your OB said it's not... Sounds like an old fashioned viewpoint to me, I would consider changing to someone who is a bit more up to date. Actually flying is fine throughout your ENTIRE pregnancy unless you have blood pressure issues, the only reason airlines will not let you fly after 28/32/37 (depending on the airline) weeks is because they don't want to risk you giving birth on the plane. Relax, be good to yourself and try to enjoy your pregnancy :)

Hi Linalou, Congratulations on your first pregnancy! I completely understand that you are scared and worried but don't try not to get too upset, everything will work it's self out and The Dangerous Blonde is right...when you see that scan you will fall totally in love! I am 21 weeks pregnant with my first baby and had the same panic as you did about the insurance. My company do not insure maternity but I was able to be added to my husbands insurance policy for aprox AED 600 per month which covers everything...could this be an option for you to be added to your husband's company policy? You are bound to be nervous when your husband is working away a lot and especially when you are far away from family... being positive is easier said than done but just try and concentrate on your little one and how happy you are going to be when he/she becomes part of you family. The ladies on here are of great support so don't hesitate to ask for advice at this special time in your life...you will be ok :-) Sending positive vibes your way xxxx

thank you so much! I just can't stop crying, I can't even call my insurance because I can't speak right now. I am so shocked. I also don't have insurance at home, but I believe it should be easy to go back and get it. I am flying home next week as I am totally overwhelmed, but I was told by my OBGYN on the phone that I should not fly in the first trimester :-( I have no choice though. I just feel so stupid that I did not know that my insurance would not cover pregnancy!!! I was happy about the baby until I realized that. I felt all of a sudden so overwhelmed and helpless... It could also be the hormones. Wow, maybe you should consider not having the baby. With this sort of a reaction, you just don't seem ready to have a child. Is anyone ever really ready? I imagine not all are planned Congratulations OP and try not to worry :-)

I am flying home next week as I am totally overwhelmed, but I was told by my OBGYN on the phone that I should not fly in the first trimester :-( I have no choice though. There are a TON of pregnancy-related old wives tales about what you can and can't do. Unfortunately, many are repeated by the medical community but are not supported by the research. Hopefully this can reassure you a bit. [url=http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/travel-pregnant.aspx'>Traveling Pregnant[/url'>

First, congratulations on your baby. Second, definitely try to calm down and take deep breaths. Being under severe distress is much worse for you and the baby than flying in the first trimester. We are in our 7th month with our first, who was also a surprise for us despite using precautions. The first night I knew, I stayed up all night in fits of anxiety. I had literally just started my dream job after working towards my doctorate for 7 years and then I found out I was pregnant. Not what I would have chosen as the best timing, but isn't that how it goes. I also didn't have any maternity cover with our insurance and unfortunately most insurance companies won't let you add maternity cover once you are already pregnant. HOWEVER, you do have options here. Most clinics have antenatal packages for the uninsured and there are reasonably priced hospitals in the area. You have 9 months to save and budget for the birth, it can be done. If your husband is travelling a lot, I can understand being frightened that you will be left alone. But please try to relax and think positively for both your health and the baby's. Perhaps going home for a bit to have the support of close family will ease some of your worries. This is probably the most profound change of your life, so it's natural to feel anxious. Sending hugs and support!

Hiya Linalou, First of all congratulations. I can understand the mixed emotions one might have especially if its your first pregnancy. What do u mean when u say 'what if something happens to ur husband?' try and be as positive as u can during this period as stress can effect ur babys growth. I knw everyone has to think about the what ifs and be prepared at the same time but u should really try and keep calm. My insurance didnt cover my first pregnancy atall and i spent six months here and did the rest bk in the UK...if u feel like u need more support y not travel back home, unless u r working too? Wish u all the best x
