I probably should have mentioned a lot of her issues stem from the fact that her mum left her and her brother when she was nine and he was seven. So weak, maybe, but not without reason.

I think she tried acupuncture when she was trying to conceive naturally but I don't think she's done it since she started the IVF. I'll mention it to her next time we speak :). Sadly she does have a fair few issues that she's tried to work through in the past with therapists, and these don't help with staying positive. She has a tendency to try something really briefly, decides it doesn't work straight away and gives up :(. Week, then maybe she should let fate decide...kids are tough and you can't give up on them!

I am really sorry to hear this sad news she must keep positive its amazing how that affects your body being a positive state of mind but I know easier said than done!! Just a thought has she tried acupunture.? I did it and researched it and reed some really good resuilts about it. When I went to the client the lady said ideally you should start before you actually start the IVF cycle its worth a thought you never know. I really hope it works out for her this time I have everything crossed x x

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I spoke to her on Skype earlier today and she seems to be reasonably positive about this go, but she's so up and down. One minute she's OK and the next she's convinced herself it'll never work, and I just want to do what I can to help :( which is probably not a lot. A friend of mine had a similar situation to yours. We lost touch after a few cycles of IVF and I ran into her at a play centre last year, and I think that's the most excited I've ever been about someone else's offspring! I was so over the moon she'd had a daughter, conceived naturally just after the last IVF failed.

DubaiCat, Hopefully I can give your friend some hope. I was told that I would never conceive naturally. I went through 3 courses of IVF. It totally stressed me out. I just gave up hope and decided to focus on making money. Started a new job an some six months down the line I fell pregnant naturally and now have a 3 year DD. xxx

Thank you. She has two more goes with this batch of embryos, and she's just messaged me to say she's trying to be more positive this time round. She's just started on the oestrogen so fingers crossed!

It failed :(. But, she does seem quite positive (I guess all the home tests she did prepared her for the bad news) and she got her period almost straight away so they can go ahead and have another go without delay. I'm going to get sore fingers and toes from keeping them crossed. Sorry to hear that. My first ivf cycle failed. My 2nd was much better. I got pregnant and had 10 embryos to freeze. Hope your friend has better luck 2nd time around.

Wow - congratulations! So it worked first time? She says the success rate at her clinic is something like 70-odd per cent, which I think is high, so hopefully it'll work for her too. I'm not a praying kind of person but I've been having a go recently just in case it might help :D.

I was (touchwood) one of the lucky ones I am now 22weeks and 3 days pregnant to be honest still quite nervous. The other bit of advice I would give is dont look on forums I was looking then I read things that got me so down and worriedas I was not reacting in that way they really dont help well they did not help me as you compare everything. Everone is differnt and body works in such different ways. It was hard but I have not looked since it will be what it will be is the way I try and think.

She's been back online googling and says so many women get positives early on, so she's convinced it hasn't worked. I know nothing I could say would make her feel any better but I just feel so useless :(. ETA: Did yours work? I hope so :). edited by DubaiCat on 06/10/2011

I totally understand what she is going through those 17 days are the hardest days ever. It felt like 17 years I somehow managed to stop myself doing a hometest to scared it think. Thinking of her and have everything crossed she gets good news.

Thanks :). She spoke to the clinic and they won't test until the 17 days is up :(. It must be the most frustrating wait ever.

I ****** on a stick every day and the first time it showed pregnant was 11 days after the transfer... so few more days of patience. If she realllllyyy reallly cant wait then a blood test is most conclusive now.

A close friend of mine in Canada is undergoing her first cycle of IVF. She hasn't had much luck so far, as she got ovarian hyperstimulation with the egg retrieval process and is now doubting the transfer has worked. She did the transfer nine days ago and it was with 3-day-old frozen eggs (I think I got that right). She's done pregnancy tests for the past three days and they're negative, and she says she's seen plenty of women on online forums saying they got a BFP six or seven days post-transfer so she reckons it's failed. Is she just testing too early or is it likely to be negative? Her doctor has told her to go back 17 days post-transfer for the hCG test. Any advice gratefully received. I have no idea what it's like to be in her shoes and I want to help as much as I can.
