Stop baby rolling in cot

My 6 month old has recently learnt to roll from his back to his tummy. He can't go from tummy to back yet so cries when he's tired. Lately he's started to twist and roll in his sleep such that he ends up in strange positions in his cot and/or moves around so much in his sleep to the point he wakes himself up. Tonight he has woken 6 times in 3 hours.

Does anyone know what I can do to help stop him rolling like this? He's too big for his Moses basket now. I've tried to line cushions on either side of him to fill up space in the cot but am worried he may possibly roll and suffocate on the cushions? Any tips appreciated. Thanks

Cushions, belts or positioners can pose a risk of sids especially if he can't roll back over I wouldn't use them. My LO was the same and I got the breathable bumper to stop her hands and feet getting stuck. Just give it some time and he'll get used to rolling back over. Also give lots of tummy time whike awake to help him along. Even "breathable bumpers" are said to be a SIDS risk. Best just to give baby practice at rolling and wait this short lived phase out. I think for both kids it only lasted a week or so before they either decided no to roll since they couldn't roll back or they figured out how to get back to where they wanted to be if/when they did roll.

My friend told me once to roll a large towel up and place on the mattress either side at the sides and put a fitted sheet over so there is no danger for baby. I did this and my Baby slept through with no rolling :)

Give him lots of help and practice during the days to figure out how to go in both directions.

Hi there Mrs B, would you consider co-sleeping? That way you could quickly help him if need be and most likely he'd sleep much better, might not wake up at all. You could do it as a transition for a couple of weeks until he goes through this phase.

There is a sleep belt you can use to keep them on their back, http://www.safetsleep.com/products/travel-sleepwrap-babywrap but tbh if you just hang in there I'm sure he's not far off being able to roll both ways and he will eventually learn to sleep on his tummy anyway. I wouldn't put pillows etc in the cot when he's still not very mobile.
